Same seller. Technically speaking, it's an AR1200, however, to me, it's a 2640 with a different model name: Ebay Item #220123959081 Ebay Item #220123962279 mk |

Hi Mike, It could be an AR1200 or at least a transition model. It has the later style head inlaid. Ace |

I agree: it's an AR1200 transitional model. It still has the Super 80's and I suspect it's wired hb / single / out-of-phase like the 2619 or transitional AR300. I bet it's a great one. mk |

MK: The $1850.00 starting price seems very reasonable, no? |

We've seen nice 1979 AR300's go for around $1,400. In that case, I think an AR1200 for $1,850 is reasonable, especially if it's in nice condition. I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again. The seller says the trisound settings are series/split/parallel, however, according to the 1979 catalog, it's hb(series)/split/phase reversal. The Super 80's and the phase reversal make this AR1200 model unique. This model was very short lived. Soon thereafter, Ibanez changed to Super 58's and series/split/parallel wiring. From a collector's perspective, that should increase the value of this guitar due to its rare nature. From a player's perspective, who knows.... mk |

I can tell you it's worth $1850, if it's in good shape. These guitars are incredibly well made and both necks are incrdible and the sound is awesome too. I know folks get concerned about the weight but it ain't bad. Really, players with specific needs would be the ones to buy this axe. Know what I mean? Like I write specifically on a 12 string alot and so I need the 12 string side. If you just basically play lead or have no great need for the 12's... then... it's still a great axe but it's the type of axe you'll eventually let go of if you're not playing it. I use both necks, alot. I've played the Gibson SG doublenecks (whatever the model is... Pages model) and the ar1200 is really a better guitar. Even just the aesthetics blows away the Gibby. These are neat guitars. When I had to let go of my ar2622, mc500nt and ar500cs to get the ar5000, notice how I held on to the ar1200. |
