Guy has a Modern & a Rocket Roll. Moderne is a hacker though. Has a Kahler that "He thinks is original." ...... Link to the Moderne: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=0 14&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=3301 48287723&rd=1&rd=1 The V doesn't look too bad. At least restorable. As far as the Futura (Moderne) goes, it looks like it needs a new bridge, tailpiece, pickups, and pickguard. Did anyone see anything else changed out that I missed? Yes, I'm bidding on it anyway. Thanks. - Pete |

Pete, I think that its been routed out for the Kahler and there is a hack job lock nut added. Might be tough to get it back to original |

Dave_g - Thanks for the extra eyes. I missed the lock nut completely. Fortunately, that huge pickguard can cover a lot of sins but that lock nut worries me. Thanks, - Pete |

A Kahler requires a pretty big pocket for it's mechanism. It's (a guess from memory) probably at least 2 1/2 to 3" square, and about 1 inch deep. I have filled one with maple a block (on an 84 Explorer), and re-topped it with a flame maple cap & binding, but it's a real pain! Turned out beautiful, and looked like a Hamer Standard when done, but it would be next to inpossible to do a restore back to original, with the ash body. This pocket pretty much fills the area between the bridge & tailpiece. Nothing to cover it. The other thing is that if they put it on studs (the Gibson mount that this one has), they may very well have had to plug, move, and install different ones from the originals. Not an impossible fix, but keep this all in mind, when bidding. The tremolo is MUCH more severe than a simple lock nut, with 4 small screws holding it on. |

DHC - I was talking about this with a professional lutier and it's his opinion that the Kahler mounted on the original bridge/tail studs. Fortunately, the Ibanez Futura's pickguard is different/larger than the Gibson Moderne's and will cover up the trem cavity after it has been plugged. It won't look very pretty with the pickguard off but I can live with that. Thanks, - Pete |

Hey Pete, I see you snagged the Moderne. Coolness! Yeah, I looked at it again, and the way that piguard is, you should be good to go. Congrats! DHC |

Thanks, DHC! That was the easy part. Now comes the ugly part. *sigh* Why oh why do people do bad things to good guitars? - Pete |
