Author Message   Davehowardcustom Username: Davehowardcustom Registered: 10-2005 Posted on Monday, September 10, 2007 - 8:01 pm:    Have you guys noticed all the wacked out (mostly zero feedback) bidders on E Bay lately with names like c***w, I***3, J***T, etc? Seems mighty suspicious, and they're all bidding early, driving prices up, but very few are actually winning auctions (think I've only seem one of these "letter***letter" bidders win an auction). And they're flooding the auctions. I saw one last week that had like 6 of these bidders, on the same guitar. What's the deal? Any thoughts? It used to be that you could see the bidder's real eBay account name during an auction. Then, I think, they changed things so only the real account names showed if you were logged in and it wasn't a private auction, otherwise you saw dummy names like "bidder1", "bidder2", etc Then eBay changed things so that was all you saw regardless of whether you were logged in or not, private auction or not. Most recently, eBay changed things again so that the dummy bidder names all have formats like a***b. If you are a bidder in an auction and if you are logged in, you will see your own real account name in the bid history, though. - Pete   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 12:06 am:    I've noticed a bunch of low-feedback bidders, though, that's for sure. It's frustrating that you can't click on their feedback numbers and see their reputation, but I guess that's between the bidders and the sellers. In recent transactions, the seller has refused to ship or has damaged in shipment items that I have purchased. You as a buyer have NO RIGHTS to anything. The Buyer Protection plan should have been written on tissue and left in the restroom. As for the zero bidders, some of these guys are shill bidders. All that you need is a credit card to activate an eBay account. Some people have as many as five eBay accounts. Kinda BS but you never really know who you are dealing with. One trick is to look at bidders profile and last items bid on. If bidder has only bought cartoon books for the last year and now they are bidding 1500 for a Destroyer, it is a safe bet that it is shill.   Sixvsix Username: Sixvsix Registered: 3-2002 Posted on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 9:20 am:    I noticed it and assumed it was another ebay mod for the sake of it. I never bother to tick the private box or bidder 1/2/3 etc box on any of my auctions. I like to see who I'm up against and I suspect so do the majority.
