when you could pay $600 and get this:

Ebay Item #230174809278

Yes, yes, I know. Preaching to the choir, but just think of the quality difference.

Chuck, this ain't exactly comparing apples to apples though. In many ways. 2 different animals. The sound capabilities, pups, the weight, all the design elements are completely different here. I think the IBZ may be an mc200, (correct me if I am wrong.) If it is, you could probably get one for less than $600 anyways. I owned an mc300 (which I believe I paid less than $600 for, and let it go because... it wasn't my cup of tea as far as depth of tone, it's a light guitar and sometimes, I need a bit more wood to get the sound depth/tone I like. Well, that's my 2 cents worth. I'm sure folks will see it another way but that's what I think. I can certainly think of many IBZ axes that your point would hold true about in such a comparison, but maybe not this particular MC model. This MC is a decent axe for sure and would suit many players needs.

That Gibson is overpriced for being a factory second IMHO. I really don't think you can make a comparison with Gibson and Ibanez in general. I know I'll probably get a lot of people on here saying you can, but they're both totally different animals. It's been my experience with Ibanez and other Japanese guitars in general that their pickups (humbucker or single coil) tend to have their own take on what a pickup should sound like. Call me crazy if you want, but the Japanese guitars in general overemphasize or 'beautify' the sound of a pickup whereas Gibson pickups and Fender pickups tend to have a much more raw sound.

Just my two cents and I'm sure people will have different opinions of what I think. I really do love the older Japanese guitars in general, but this has just been my observation.

I love 'em both, I have a great Les Paul Custom, and several Ibanezes. I don't think there's any comparison. I tend to play power chords and rock out on my Lester, and tend to noodle, and play wierd chords with more interesting harmonic intermodulations on my Ibanezes. Things that sound good on the ibanezes sound muddy on the Gibson, and things that sound good on the Gibson sound sterile on the Artist type guitars, and downright brittle on the Musicians. There's a few things I play that sound good on both. I'm not much of a player, though. I build 'em better than I play 'em!

I couldn't agree with you more guitarwhisperer. They're apples and oranges and that's what is so great about Ibanez's. They took their own spin on guitar building and made something truly their own. I'm young, but I've acquired a good amount of guitars and I really can't say that one is better than another...but I do have my favorites.

My point is that for $600, you get amazing quality that people are obviously ready to pay $2,500 for if the word "Gibson" is on the headstock.

Could of picked a better example than the musician sound wise...but not construction wise!
The point is well taken.
