I asked him directly, and let him know what the model was (the MC900DS, based on the number of frets). He said he is bound by the directions he's getting from the estate, but that he had already had good luck getting his BIN's on other items. I said the bass is probably worth between $700 and $900, so his reserve price may not be too far north of where the bidding is already. But I guess we'll see. He said he would just relist it if it doesn't sell. I don't think he's in any rush. -Chuck |

Current bid, with 6 hours to go, of $1,295!!! Amazing. I paid $850 for mine about 5 months ago and thought I had overpaid by a hundred or so. Plus, mine is the NT. |

methinks someone overpaid that 1980 AS200 is just a tad overpriced too IMO |

I see the end of item note on the auction: This item sold to "theguitarwhisperer". So you did buy it. Like I say above, I got my NT version earlier this year for $850 (no shipping because the guy was local). I absolutely love that bass. It's my favorite, and the one I bring if I'm going out to play. Did you get bid up that high for it (did you get pushed higher than you wanted to go)? I love the fact that people think that bass is worth that much. I've seen DS MC924's go for a lot less. Is the 900 considered more collectible? I had a 1981 MC924DS and I didn't like it, but mostly because it was sort of beat up and the stain was very very dark. Post some better pictures when you get it, okay? -Chuck |

I win! A little pricey, though. I was thinking it'd be in the $900 dollar range 'cuz that's what they'd been going for on the higher end, but this one seemed to be in better than usual condition, though. Did you see how shiny the control cavity cover is? The things hardly ever been played. In ten years or so, it'll be worth what I paid. Plus, I figured one of y'all would be bidding in the $900's as well The thing that made it expensive was the reserve, but that's just where he had it. It's a good thing he lowered it, $1295 was pushing it. I had planned on $1200 being my max. I bought an MC400 from another ICW member, and immediately fell in love with how warm and useable the EQ system is. I can imagine how good it's gonna sound on this bass!. |

I wonder who the estate belonged to? I could have a famous person's bass! Guess I'll never know. I'm gonna e-mail the sales manager dude and ask him. |

Oh, by the way, does anybody know what model this is? I know it's a musician bass, but does anybody have any more info they'd like to add? All my friend who was following the auction with me could say was, "Man, those basses sound awesome! Dude!" and stuff like that. He seemed to like it. Based on the construction, materials, and electronics, it should sound kinda music-mannish it looks like to me, but with single coils instead of big fat humbuckers. |
