greetings from canada. i'm new to the forum, but not to ibanez. thought i'd send a pic of my favourite - a pf300 that i've nicknamed the "krf" model as it resembles the grand old man in the morning sun. as you can see the finish has been reduced to a lovely shade of 'sunburnt pig' after a mad rash of butchery that i thought would result in 'refinishing' the old dog. didn't work out exactly as i'd hoped, but i still love it. she's in the shop right now for a new nut, fret dress and electronic tuneup. cheers all and long live ibanez's everywhere. /image{http://www.flickr.com/photos/brucerobertson/321854 015/in/set-72157594366591335/} |

hey sixvsix (great name btw - my favourite tube ever) thanks for the welcome. i got this guitar literally in pieces from a buddy several years ago. i mean in pieces. the guitar was completely deconstructed after having been spray painted yellow. (pickups, binding, everything. buddy picked it up free as a project and i ended up with it. i stripped it down and put it together and lo! it was aurally pleasing! but needing work ... swapped out the super 70's for a G.490 and SD '59, but it needs a nut and fret file n dress, which is being done as we speak. the neck and action are killer, the tone is amazing, but the guitar looks like bride of frankenstein... still it has a bizarre attraction to me. i own a couple of other ibanez but none speak to me like this one with the strange history. a keeper and a player i think. sorry for the ramble. gotta love ibanez eh, those tailpieces, the velute sp? on the neck, they really thought of everything. so how much do you like/love yours? cheers mate. |

Well I only just got my one. I first had a strum on a PF model around 1978. At the time I wasn't too struck on them but the years have mellowed my attitude and now I'm a happy owner. I have some parts missing and like yours the nut needs sorting but its playing ok at the moment. six (my fave tube too) |

Sweet PF300. One of my first guitars was a PF200 NT. I sold it about 15 years ago when I wasn't playing much and I regretted letting it go. I sold it for $250 if I remember right. All original w/ case. So I was jonesing for another one and found a PF300 NT on ebay. I really like that guitar. As good or better than my Les Paul. |

Welcome Blondax....Yeah I got a '78 PF200 and despite mylove for it, it's just too heavy for live work.So it's back in Scotland under a bed!!!..but they def. have a voice of their own. |

thanks. i also have a 'custom' in blonde that is heavier than my pf300. does that 200 of yours' have tone pockets between the top and mahogany body? if not that would explain the added weight. great feature of the pf in my opinion, adding a little woody warmth. i always found the super 70's a little bright and brittle for clean work - i'm a sloppy blues hound and dig the dirt for cover - so the tone cavities help, as do warmer pickups. but for 'surfing distorto waves' there's nothing like those ballsy old 70's. can hardly wait to get the 300 out of the shop next week. with a bone nut and frets filed and dressed, she should be back in glory. cheers. |

Blondax, Thing about those super 70's is you gotta roll back the volume to 9 to get nice depth and clarity when clean and a nice ballsy (but not crushingly) drive sound setting....They're just a bit too hot flat out! My one does have the tone pockets, but even with a wide strap it's a heavy un...and you really don't need pins and needles runningdown your arm in a live situation! |
