Hi everyone,

a few years ago, I bought this guitar from a co-worker.
I don't know anything about it, especially what model it is, when it was built and what's the value of it today.
I paid about $550.
Here are some photos:

Can anyone help me ?

Stoneface:

What you have is a model 2680AV (Antique Violin finish) made in April 1979. Some refer to these as the Bob Weir "Standard" because they are a less ornate version of the 2681 model that Bob Weir endorsed.

They came in 3 finish colors: Antique Violin (AV), Natural (NT), Brown Sunburst (BS). The Naturals are the most common. A recent 2680 NT on eBay failed to reach the $1,100.00 reserve price. $900.00 is fairly reasonable asking price. The less common AV and BS should get a $100-200 premium.

Stone...Welcome to the ICW ! You have a Model # 2680 Professional Guitar (often refered to as a dot Weir because its the sister guitar to the rococo vined #2681, endorsed by Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead)

Your guitar is in one of the more desirable colors and looks to be in pretty good shape.

If pristine , this guitar could sell in todays market upwards to $1,300 or so. However, your guitar has been heavily modified (note the extra switches). These type of permanant mods will severly change the value of the guitar as mch as 25%-50%. Still the guitar is restoreable and a desireable guitar for the collector, but expect to haggle on the price due to the Mods.

Its a great guitar and thanks for sharing

I know the pickups look original, however, they may not be. Seeing how this guitar was modded with the addition of switches (coil taps, phase reversal, etc), this probably required switching the pickups from 1/2 wired Super 80's to 3/4 wired Super 80's.

(unless there's something going on between the pickups as opposed to within the pickups...)

Thoughts?

Oops, my eyes are going. Didn't see those "extras". Listen to Dave and Michael, they know what they're talking about.

Thank you for all the replies ! Great !
Nice to hear that this model in its colors is one of the rarer ones...
The guitar is mostly in a good condition, except a few scars on the peghead...
Hmm, the switch modification is a pitty in my opinion and I have really no idea for what they are, I've never played it amplified. (I stopped playing years ago)
I'm not sure as well, if the pickups are original. The most older Ibanez guitars I have seen, have the Ibanez font logo on it.
These have a kind of butterfly on it. I wasn't able to take a photo in a good quality, sorry. Maybe I'll try tomorrow with daylight...
thanks again and best regards !

If you can, take some pics of the wiring cavity showing the pickup wires, switches etc in detail. I'd like to know what the mods are all about.

Hi again,

now I have some more photos for you Michael:
one more with the switches:
http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=I MG_0170.da6.JPG

the bigger one is not wired:
http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=I MG_0183.d36.JPG

I tried to arrange the wires a little bit, hope it's good enough...

here is the best I could get from the pickup:
http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=I MG_0185.65c.JPG

when I took the photos I noticed for the first time, that someone also did something with the bridge,
it seems that the cavitiy of the bridge is enlarged (not a masterpiece...)
Here you can see both sides:

If something is missing or you need more photos then tell me...

Oli:

Yes - the big switch is not wired. It looks like the smaller switch is green and has the yellow wires attached. I think I see 6 yellow wires, some of which are attached to a volume pot. I appears that none of the pickup wires themselves have been attached to the switch and that some of the wires also go to the pickup selector. I suspect that the switch has an effect only on one of the pickups. Maybe there's another capacitor and the switch runs the signal through the other capacitor for tonal variation. It could also be a pickup kill switch, however, that doesn't make sense as the pickup selector does the same thing. Unfortunately, I can't see enough to tell what's been done for sure.

Here's is the standard wiring diagram for the Weir 2680. Unfortunately, it's not very good as it doesn't show wire colors.
