Thanks John, I just picked this baby up and its a beast in the weight department! It has very little fret wear and the nickel plating is in good shape, just needs to be polished up. Pics soon! |

What is a good method of cleaning and polishing this type of plating on the bridge and tuners? |

Has anyone ver played one of these, This may be a no frills Ibanez but it is as solid as they come. The seller had it listed as a neck through but its a set in. Any way I paid $305.00 for it so it was worth it. |

Freak, I have always felt that the Studio series are some of the most underrated vintage Ibanez guitars on the market. For this reason I presently own 3 of them...an ST50, ST55, and an ST300. I think the original draw for me was that I learned to play on one of these back in the 70s and early 80s. I never realized what a great and unique player it was till I traded it in for a Squire Strat (MIJ). I had missed that guitar ever since...then ebay came along. By the way, tell us what you think of the V2s running through the ST100. Again, I think these pickups sound warmer than the Dimarzio Super Distortion that they tried to imitate. I'm fairly certain that these V2s have alnico magnets...maybe that has something to do with the great tone that may guitars produce. As far as cleaning the hardware, I use Virtuoso Premium Polish and buff till I'm satisfied. But to be honest, the hardware on my guitars was in really good condition to begin with. Anyway, enjoy your new axe! |

Thanks Agr. I agree that these are under rated. Again I hate to compare with Gibson or whoever else but this guitar is better then anything they had to offer in that range ecspecially in 1979.I sold off 3 low end Gibsons from that late 70's period because they were junky. this guitar is superior to those at probably a 3rd of the price then. |

Agr, i haven't plugged this in yet but I spent a few hours cleaning it up. It's starting to look real good. Tommorow I will get a chance to check it out the electronics and I will post some pics and a report! Cheers, Brian |

A ST100 was my first guitar (bought in 1983) and was quite the workhorse. I traded it in for a Strat in 1987. I recently found another in mint condition on eBay and immediately bought it. These are great guitars with a fast neck and a bright sound. A bit of advice though: 1. They are notorious for cracking the wood around the input jack, the wood is VERY thin there and you might want to reinforce it with a washer on the inside. 2. The stock pick-ups are great, but if you want to put in new ones read the specs carefully, you want ones that have more low and middle as these are pretty bright guitars. 3. Because the neck is so long you will find that sometimes when you are playing the neck will bend in or out affecting the tuning (usually during soloing with a lot of bends). This is not a problem once you get used to it, just be aware of it if it happens. Good luck, these are GREAT guitars, you will enjoy it. Frank |

Thanks for the info Frank! I probably will keep the stock pups in it. I had the same ones in a DestroyerII a while back and I like the sound. What kind of tuners were on yours? I think part of the tuning problem are the tuners themselves. |

I second what Sithrik said about cracking around the input jack. I bought a few studio's that I resold because of this. As far as neck flex goes, my American Std Strat has much more flex to it...I believe that the STs are more stable due to their 3 piece neck design. |

Did you buy them with the crack? And do you think a right angle 1/4 inch jack would lesson the stress on the wood, or is the crack from simply plugging and unplugging? This one has seen very little use and I'd hate to see that happen. |

Freak, you won't damage the jack area from everyday use. The guitars that I bought had the cracks when purchased. In both cases, the sellers indicated that they were walking away from the amp and they ran out of cord...instead of pulling out, it just stresses the wood (or the finish) because of the right angle input jack. I have never even come close to the dreaded "crack" with any of my guitars but I generally loop my cord through the strap to avoid this possibility when playing live. |

The tuners are the stock tuners that never gave me any trouble, but I believe the Planet Waves locking tuners fit into the ST-100 they are great I put them in one of my Strats. The neck flex only causes a temporary tuning problem anyway and it goes right back in tune as soon as you stop flexing it. |

Well heres a quick update on this ST. I cleaned it up real nice and set it up with 46/10 strings. I had to tighten the truss rod a hair and raise up the bridge some. I plugged it in and it sounded good. I just don't like having one tone and one volume for a 2 pup set up. Maybe I need to play with it for a few days what it can do. Any suggestions? |

nah the suregrips would have to go and you would need some stacked knobs to go with it.. To wire just think of 4 seperate pots but 2 on top of each other

Also can this be wired so each stack is a volume on top and tone below? Or maybe just wired like the old DestroyerII with 2 vol. and one tone. |

Can anyone post a pic of what the original case looked like for this ST100. I picked this up in Cherry Hill NJ. Guitar Center is good for seperating vintage guitars and their original cases. Why? Who knows maybe they ebay the case and make more and also get you to buy a new case. I would like to know what current Ibanez case would fit this thing? |

Freak, I have the standard ST50 and ST55 cases for all of my Studios. Not sure what the ST100 came with but mine are all the original black hardshell cases that fit the contours of the STs (or Musicians for that matter). By the way, I have an ST55 that has 2V and 2T controls. Besides having more control you'll find that the controls are more "out of the way" in this configuration. Probably not an issue for most...but my hand positioning is more comfortable with the volume controls pushed further away in the control cavity. |

Yeah I hear you on that. I probably will leave this alone for its orignality purpose and just get used to the tone. It's unique in its on way! |
