Hi all,
I've had this guitar for about 8 years or so and bought it from a little shop where I'm from in Sydney, Australia. Fell in love with it straight away and did the deal on the spot.

Never really had a clue about what it was till I found this forum and have worked out it's an Ibanez Artist 2616 (thank you group).

There is no serial (or any other) number on the guitar at all. I'd be grateful for any info on how to date this gorgeous machine.

Unfortunately the plating has come off almost every metal surface and there never was a pick guard with it but that would only hide the stunning flame maple and we can't have that.

The neck seems to be 4 piece including the fingerboard. It plays very nicely but has a vibrating buzz somewhere in the PUPs and there doesn't seem to be any way to access the innards to find out what's going on in there.

Anyone know how many of these guitars were made?

Thanks for your help.

Robert

Nice looking instrument! Good luck with the repair process, sounds like all things that can be easily addressed. Parts of my 70's and 80's Ibanez guitars have significant corrosion of the gold parts, it seems to be a combination of the materials they used and the climate conditions the instruments were used in.

Robert,
Very nice.I scored one just like it a month or so ago and I love it.I'm not sure how many were produced but I think they were made from 1973 to 1976.
No serial, script covers and the block lettering truss cover makes me think it's a 1974.I'm not sure but I believe there was no logo on the truss in '73 and they engraved the fancier logo after '74.

Lovely Guitar....Are they flatwound strings I spot?...
I have a 78 Artist 300 that I bought from new, same problem with the corroded gold plating on the tailpiece.....I will get some photo's up shorlty so you can all give me your opinion...! I also have an old Blazer that I got new around 81/82...which was my main guitar up to very recently..again I will post some pics as I dont know the model or much about it historically at all....It has a cracked pickguard (white) which I would love to replace, so if anyone knows of spares anywhere(I'm in the UK) let me know!!!
Stumbled upon this site by accident, but great to find some like minded Ibanez lovers in the world......I think the Artist particularly is a very underrated guitar....but oddly enough the prices now seem to be rising...so I'll keep hold of mine to fund my happy retirement!

All the best
MarkL
