I have a 86 "super edition" artist with the super 58s.I had the pickup covers and the pickup pole screws re-gold plated at a local plating shop.I now have a TON of micrphonic feedback.Today I re-potted them with a mixture of parrifin wax and bee's wax.It might of helped a little. The covers had been taken off by the privous owner and put in the case when I got it.I dipped them with the covers off.Should I have put the covers back on to get the wax in between the cover and the pickup or is there a chance that the gold that is on the pickup pole screws and the pickup covers is causing the feedback???I haven't played it that much from the time I first got it but I just don't remember the pickups being that noisy.I have a 87 RG550 with a vai evolution in the bridge and there is hardly any feedback at all.I play through a tube screamer through the front of a SLO100 on the crunch chanel(LOTS OF GAIN!!) so I know it's not my rig. PLEASE HELP!!! |

the microphonic feedback you are experiencing is because of the gold covers.. not the gold plate on them.. You need to wax pot the pickup with the covers ON the pickups.. this will help quite alot.. |

Thanks spiro. I thought there might be a chance that could be it.Now, I took the guitar to a tech I have known for a long time and he took the covers off and said there wasn't much differance. That was BEFORE I potted them with the covers off. |
