Sup Fellas! I just wanted to show off my new acquisition. I passed on this guitar once, and I got a second chance. I paid a little more than I wanted to, but I think I did well. Here are some pics. I believe it to be an MC400 and all original. It is missing the back cover of 4th string and a brass screw in the neck p/u. I'm still getting to know her personally, in the comfort of my own space. Let me know what you think or if you have any additional info. Thanks!!!

Also, if anyone has a gold cover to the tuning machine, I'd be willing to deal. Thanks! -Brent |

Brent, Fantastic guitar, congrats! I have a set of gold button tuners that came off an MC250. I replaced them with pearl buttons because of the same reason, one of them lost its back. I still have the originals and I'm 99% sure that the backs on them are interchangable with those from the pearl button models. If so, I would be happy to send you the best back I can get from the five remaining. Just shoot me an email with your address to jsailor@verizon.net. -jeff |

Hi Bob. Its got a flat top. I paid ~500 bucks for it. I purchased it at Guitar Center and the reason I said I thought I paid too much was because they wouldn't budge on the price. Funny story, I looked at the guitar previously and the first time they wouldn't budge on the price. So I walked away. I called them back two weeks later and it was sold. I said to myself that I wouldn't be so stubborn next time and miss a good deal. Then I heard from a friend that works at another store that it sold for 399, which really upset me. Anyway, long story short, the guitar came back to the store as a return and the salesperson called me to let me know. That day happened to be my birthday, so when the birdie landed in my lap like that again, I decided it was meant to be. After my birthday celebration last night (few glasses of wine) I played the guitar for a few then set it down. Well it started talking to me and I got really freaked out. I turned up the volume and it had apparantly picked up a news radio station. Tonight, I'm replacing the 9 Volt battery and cleaning up mess from this 10 year old battery. |

Thanks all! And thanks Jeff for your efforts on the tuning machine cover. I cleaned up the control cavity this evening. There was some black foam padding for the battery that turned to black goo over the years. I cleaned out it out. Turns out the battery didn't leak inside, which was a bonus. We're getting along nicely here... lots of tonal possibilites. -Brent |

The one in Seattle. She's not the first vintage Ibanez I've seen pass through there. |

Brent: I was going to say earlier that, in my (limited) experience, Guitar Center has never been too generous with their used guitar prices. The Seattle GC looks like the exception to the rule. In NJ, I'd expect to see it tagged for $700.00+ I regularly see beat up LP copies for $500.00 or more. |

John: I'm not sure how they arrive at their prices. I'm guessing they keystone their used purchases. I know that my guitar was sold to GC by an employee for $250.00. Guy must have been hard up for cash, an all too familiar story. I still feel good about the it, even though they wouldn't/couldn't deal. |

Brent: Wouldn't you have loved to hook up with the employee just before he brought it in and offered him $300.00? In a related dream, I traded 3 magic beans for a mint condition '81 AR5000. |

Wouldn't that be sweet!! Although I can't complain too much, they threw in about 80 dollars worth of goodies (strap, strings, and a cable). I'm still trying to figure out why my guitar picks up the radio signal when I turn down the volume with the EQ on. Any ideas, or is this just an anomoly of 400/500 musician? |

One thing that surprises me about Guitar Center is that you got the case with it at all without having to buy one of the generics they sell. Probably because it won't fit any current generic case. |

Brent: Maybe this used to belong to Steve Jobs and your's is an early prototype of the Musician IPod? Is there a USB port on it? I did have some strange voice reception once, but thought it was my amp. Don't know if it was phone or CB transmissions. |

Here's an auction for a MC500. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7325719124&fromMakeTrack=true Quote from Auction I have checked production numbers of this guitar in the NT (natural) finish. The numbers indicate that this guitar is 1 of 267 ever made. To be more specific, in 1978 there were 104 built, in 1979 there were 138 built, and in 1980 there were 25 built...totalling 267. The alternative finish on this guitar was a DS (dark stained) option and there were 1144 of these built. End Quote Anyone know where the production numbers were found and if these are true numbers for the MC500 (i realize this post is re: MC400). |

Speaking of Guitar Center has anyone ever recieved A post card from them after a purchase offering a free guitar cable. I went there the 1st time I got it and was insulted at the cheapness of it. I spent $1000.00 on a guitar and they offer a piece of cable as a bonus! |

I did find a gold back for my tuner. Guitar Maniacs (local vintage guitar shop) had one deep in their bone yard of used parts. Sweet! |
