What does an Artist EQ sound like?

Author Message   McVee Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 10:59 am:    We all saw the Artist EQ fetch $890 on eBay. I have never heard one but am interested. I play in a Santana cover band and would rather play an Ibanez than a PRS! Can anyone share their sonic experience with the EQ? Do you get hiss or hum? Do notes decay silently? Turns out the bidder was not ready to buy that one and i had left a email to let me know if the deal folds and i ended up with it. p.s. the little sbg500 i picked up gives a great santana sound when the amp is set right.at the $379.00 CLOSING PRICE IT WAS MY BEST DEAL YET soundwise. I certainly don't want to sound like i like it more than my ibanez products,but it simply was the best bang for the buck that i've got yet. but unlike some young guy i read about,i cant touch the way satana made his sing even after 24 years of playing although i believe the guitar can. mike g.   mcvee Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 10:59 am:    To Mike G. Yep, Santana's definitely a master of his domain, and a broad one at that. I look forward to your message when you get the EQ. I've heard they sound awesome, and very versatile. Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 10:59 am:    McVee: The sbg500 is an early 80's yamaha.I knew Carlos used to play a sg2000 yamaha so i wanted to get something close to it without shelling out big bucks just to experiment. I could be wrong,but i believe GIBS*N had a hissy fit about yamaha using sg in a model designation so it became sbg(solid body guitar?) I think the body is a cross between an ibanez professional an the sg.It's a slightly heavy guitar but no where near as heavy as the professional(bob weir)model. It does sustain forever!The action is very similar to an artist but it seems to have more "sweet spots" (even when unplugged!) Don't get me wrong,I LOVE IBANEZ GUITARS,but this one was a real unexpected suprise.I've had it through 4 totally different amps and was impressed with the sound with all but one. Every now and then i have to check the "other" brands to reconfirm my loyalty to Ibanez. Mike G.   Pierre Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 10:59 am:    The EQ is incredibly versatile. l use it to play everything from Jazz to rock and l can get it to sound exactly like Santana's PRS. It's not as heavy as a Gibson Les Paul and the neck is just right (not too thin or chunky) l payed top dollars for mine, but it's worth every cent. It's been my main guitar for seven years and my backup is a Gibson ES 335. l haven't seen many for sale, but when l do they seemed to be snapped up fairly swiftly. The last one l saw was on the Alnico site a week or so ago. Trouble is, it's in Australia.   mike g. Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 10:59 am:    I now have 3 Artist eq models and all 3 sound slightly different and have slightly different features. One of the things that annoyed me was to access the battery,the rear cover had to be removed. Then I discovered one with a flip-up battery access. It looks to be a original item but it's the first one I've seen like that. Can anyone out there add some input about the access cover? I will send John pics of the 3 different models for comparison. Are all the EQs being discussed variants of the 2622, or do they include AR500, AR3000, and (gulp) AR5000? Just wondering as I picked up an '80 AR500 not too long ago, it's really sweet, especially when combining some of the tri-sound settings with mid and high boost. I was trying to figure out how rare the AR500, AR3000, and AR5000 are...over the past 2-2 1/2 years I've only seen around 3 for sale, and the others were either pretty beat and/or had refrets. Have seen more Scruggs w/ vines, in comparison. I compromised a little on mine (pro refret) just because I'd been looking so long, and everything else about it was decent. And with the active circuitry in on these guitars creates battery problems. anyone know the whereabouts of the ever illusive phantom power supply,or someone who makes them thanks paul happy holidays everyone
