Hey

Sorry for hijacking the e-bay thread. I just couldent figure out how to start a new thread. Got it now..

Tomorrow evening I am out to check a '78 pf200 (at least he says so).
It is for sale at 3100 Dkr = 511 USD.

Q1: Is this too much? Ive seen some older posts on pricing on ebay, with some tables that I couldent make sense of.

Q2: I tried to make him give me the serial nr over the phone, but he claimed that the plate with the neck bolts was completely blank. As far as I can tell all pf200's should have a sr nr. right there . Should I suspect faul play here?

I live in Denmark. Here instruments are generally a lot more expensive than in US. But still I think 500 USD seems a lot more than the ebay prices I have seen mentioned here.

Appriciate any help to a soon to be vintage Ibaneze collector.

Btw: Just got me a 74 ibanez overdrive. That is the most insane effectpedal I have ever tried. Awesome!

Here's the last relevant price info on the PF200 auctions on ebay (as of Dec. 2004):

Mod No.DescriptionAvg CondSalesHiLowAvgAvg 4/04Avg 12/04
PF200Performer8.225535170331326335

Here's what the categories mean:
  • Avg Cond = Average Condition, based on a 10 point system where 10 would be mint.
  • Sales = number of auctions tracked
  • Hi = highest price paid
  • Low = Lowest price paid
  • Avg = Average price for all tracked auctions
  • Avg 4/04 = Average price of auctions tracked before April 2004
  • Avg 12/04 = Average price of auctions tracked before December 2004

The last two Averages help to show if there is a trend: up or down.

According to the numbers, I would expect an 8.5 condition PF200 to go for around $350.00. Mint woud be around $500.00.

Not having a serial number doesn't necessarily indicate that something is wrong. We've documented exceptions to the "everything has a serial number after 1977" rule. You have to inspect the guitar to know for sure whether there is anything suspicious.

Hope this helps,
JohnS

John,

Do you keep your own spreadsheet/database of prices for Ibanez guitars!?

I'm showing the PF-200 in the Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guice to be low of 300 and high of 450. All bets are off when you get two hungry bidders on eBay.

No, I don't track and compile the ebay data. This is a lot of work. It was done by RusselW, a member from Australia. But he doesn't seem to be around lately.

The VG compilation is of dealer's pricing. This tends to be high; more in line with a frenzied ebay auction, than the "average".

One thing I notice is that a brand will get some "buzz" and become hot and dealers feel that anything with that name should be priced 50-75% higher. On ebay it's more discriminating. Certain models in the brand get hotter (usually for a good reason) and then things go to a new plateau for that model.
