Can someone please tell me? You see I bought this axe ages ago at a pawn shop, and instantly fell in love. But years went by when I thought it just wasn't cool enough, like a Strat or Les Paul, so I spent tons of dough building an arsenal of guitars that never did it for me quite the same way. Weeks ago I started to play my Artist once again and could not believe what an I've been for abandoning her for so long. I even went and purchased a Reissue Artist but it isn't the same either. What is it about this particular guitar? The sustain, the clarity, the fact that there is no annoying buzz when standing in front of my amp. Is it these pickups or the whole axe? What other model do you suggest I try? I like the way the EQ looks, does it have more tone options? And what the hell are these little switches on my Reissue? |

One word. "MOJO" Your's sounds like it's got it, I know my '79 2619 has it, as does my '78 IC200. They must have had a huge delivery of MOJO to the Ibanez factory around '77, unfortunately it seemed to have run low somewhere around 1980/81 IMO. ;) |

I couldn't agree more about the awesome sound on the '77 Artist. My Artist can even make a 10 watt Radio Shack amp sound good. Other ICWers plese correct me if I am wrong(as I am likely to be since I am just learning about my guitar), but if you have two little switches down by the tone and volume knobs on your reissue guitar they might just be what the little swithces are on my guitar: three position selectors that change your pickups from humbucking to single coil to reverse phase single coil. You can hear the difference much better once you get your equipment turned up some. It took me the longest time to figure out what mine did, and seeing an Ibanez catalog from '77 was where I originally found out. Now, I just love those little switches. They open up all kinds of tonal opportunities. |
