Dave, This is a setneck.... As far as I know these 2342 were bolt-ons (or "detachable" as I prefer to say). http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans/1974sz/74gesamt-5.jpg Paul |

That's a really great guitar. I've never seen the deluxe 59er logo on anythng other than bolt-ons. 2k is way too high. |

Paul..Yea I caught the set neck and added the doubt of authenticity-if it is a factory set neck 59'er it is not in any catalog and could be a real rare bird...but....notice how the back of the guitar looks to be a TV finish an the front is a see thru & the edges are natural ! Very weird guitar, but it looks to be in very nice shape, the maple neck is somewhat rare. 2k is still WAY too high-but I guess we will see.. |

So, gentlemen, there is no clear opinion as to authenticity. This is clearly a setneck deluxe 59er guitar according to the headstock, but all deluxe 59er's had bolt-on necks. A conundrum. Is this the rare prototype? If so, would it be worth the asking price as a collectable? I understand there is no way to actually prove authenticity. Opinions? |

Arney, Even if it is a one-of-a kind ,manufactured for Jerry Garcias Grandmother its not worth 2K IMHO |

Arney: As far as authenticity goes, there are a lot of details that are correct. But as no one has seen one in a catalog, it's just too difficult to guarantee that it is or isn't a forgery. Regardless, this isn't a real LP. At best, it's a very cool Ibanez. A copy, a replica...in and of itself, a FAKE! At some point we have to stop paying inflated prices for these replicas. Maybe then creating forgeries of them would not be profitable. |

Does anyone no if the bolt on version is heavy? I found an old pic of me playing one of these in 1975 or 76. I had borrowed it from a friend for the night. I remember that this was very heavy. but I don't remember it having a neck plate on it. I will try and post the pic but it is a front view only. |

I know a bit about fakes and I just can't see why anyone would go to soooo much trouble to fake a guitar like this for that amount of gain $2000. You would be better off forging a good Tokai strat or Tele six |

Six..You missed the point...Even if its a real one-of-a kind set neck 59'er....its not worth 2 grand ! Even the heavily flamed later issue Delux '59'er are in the $450 range-granted they are not set necks but lets get some sense of reality here ! For 2K I can get a very nice Scruggs, in my choice of color-SOLID ASH, HAnd crafted with Abalone/MOP etc and still have enough change for a decent amplifier ! Keep in mind the Scruggs are collectable in their own right! |

Six: Are you saying that people are paying $2000 for Tokai replicas? I know they are respectable copies, but that puts them into the price range of the real guitars. That doesn't make much sense to me. |

Six ..check this out...Bought this "sister" guitar a couple of years ago and put a pair os Super 70's in it. Real nice see thru champagne finish, set neck, aged to a nice yellow patina-Super 70's with those cool dust covers-just like the Deluxe 59er. I'll let ya have the Aria and a '77 Deluxe 59er (black bolt on) for a grand, save the other grand for a nice MArshall !!!

Heres a couple of other "Sister Guitars" a 1975 Electra Zephyr, and a 1976 Studio Zephyr-both bolt ons. Check out how close the "75 is to the Ibanez, right down to the mustache headstock

Almost forgot, the pickups on the Zephyr were exposed bobbin with dustcovers, just like the Ibanez-but I switched 'em out for a pair of PAF's..'cause I really dig that guita-its weird how similar the copies actually were (note the white-not beige-surrounds, pickguard etc) |

I take your point about the point Dave and you are dead right, it's not worth 2k. John.. there are a lot of Fender and Gibson fakes out there. I'm just wondering when and what model Ibanez "fake" we will see first. A new Tokai LS320 59 replica burst is about 2k here. six |

I recieved the guitar today and I just can't put it down ! Absolutely one of the best "feeling" Ibanez guitars in my collection, and-if you know mw-thats saying a LOT !..Its AUTHENTIC-a SET NECK pre serial number-Lawsuit headstock- Deluxe 59'er and its in FANTASTIC condition ! Un friggin real ! the Super 70's SCREAM and the guitar displays almost perfect balance & Weight. Construction is very similar to a Custom agent with the chambered top. Also I noticed that the Tuners are the Gotoh "Star" tuners-but the two screw type (like what you would see on a CA)..This ones a KEEPER ! |

Paul, Thats the point....its not in a catalogue..neither is the Black or Natural 2700 thats in my Studio either ! Ever see a Black 2617 in a catalog ?..I have one of those too..I also believe that the 2618 (very early one) with BLOCK inlays is factory (not in any catalogue)...I am sure that there are MANY examples of Ibanez variants that do not appear in any catalog...thats what make 'em even more interesting. (I think a set neck 59er would have been a successful seller in 1974 !) |

I agree on all points Dave. The 2618 with blocks is the one mentioned in another thread here before? |

These were probably trade samples of models never released. I saw several of these sold through a store I worked at in the UK. Not everthing hit the catalogues |
