So, I have had no luck finding replacement super 77's or super 88's.... At least i won't pay 200.00+USD for the set on ebay...

So I look to my comrades at the ICW for advice. I honestly don't want to alter the aesthetic of this instrument, we all have seen enough hack jobs on these wonderful instruments, let alone the one I just repaired on this guitar. BUT I WANT TO USE IT!! And if I can't find someone to part with a set of 77's or 88's I am gonna have to put something else in there.

Any Suggestions?

All I can say is hang on. Sometime a pup will surface. I know the frustration of the waiting...

Cmangeot,

did you see my reply in your other thread? Maybe your pickups could be saved...

If you find a set of Super77 or Super88, keep in mind that the standard versions won't help you. For a 2710 you need the Tri-Sound version of those pickups.

Cmangeot:

I believe some of the Greco GO series guitars used the same pups. I don't know for sure, but it could be another way of getting something that fits?

yep, find an axe with the pups you want, remove them, put 'em in your 2710. Then... dump some pups in the axe you operated on and sell it.

I would love to find another musician with good 77's to put into the 2710, but I would just wanna keep the musician.
I was not aware that the pu's were different for the tri-sounds... I don't really use/care for the sound of the coil tap or phase anyway...
I can't stand the idea of replacements in this guitar, it would look like hell, even if it sounded like heaven, and as much as aesthetics shouldn't matter, let's face it, I have enough beater guitars with great pickups in them, but restoring these gems demands a commitment to keeping them as close as possible. As long as you don't count the large replacement wood block under the bridge :-)

I agree, Chris. Be patient & restore it as close as you can. If it's supposed to have 77s, wait for 77s. If it's supposed to have 88s, hold out for 'em.

I assume you have other guitars to play, until it's right?

With as much work & care as you have in it already, it would be a shame to wreck it again, out of impatience.

Have you 'talked' to Dave_g, off forum yet? If not.. do it... soon! He's a great guy & a huge resource for parts. He'll also probably want your old ones, to McGiver them back to life. (He doesn't understand "can't be fixed").

Bump...

I also have a set of super 77's and 88's that are microphonic, which I would trade for ones that aren't. Whether they are wired for tri sounds or not.

I BEG the ICW for some assistance!
Dave G are you out there???

Any help would be great
Thanks,
Chris

Chris:

I recently posted about Olivias Vintage having 77's or 88's. Here they are:

OK. So I finally get to use my 2710. After diligently removing all of the epoxy and the pickups from the covers,(a remarkable feat without breaking them) I have placed a set of V7 and V8 pickups which I ground off the mounting brackets into the covers without epoxy, placed some foam into the cavity so the top of the bobbin stays flush with the inside of the cover, and WOW!!! This thing sounds great!!! The best sounding, and playing Ibanez I own.

IMHO the V8 and V7 sound better than the 77's and 88's anyway.

Chris
