Michael, I saw it too and I question the data stated in the description as I posted under the topic "Artist model numbers" a little earlier. Can you confirm any of the numbers given in the description?

Even if the production number is accurate, it is still not a 4-digit amount guitar.

Guys, the production numbers are correct but IMHO both the starting price and especially the BIN are ridiculous! AR30s pop up on Ebay from time to time and usually fetch around $400. Although they're nice guitars, it's a entry level model and with a total production of 1786 units they are not sooo rare...

This seller has daone all the research except for how much these guitars sell for. I own several of the AR30's-they are great guitars-a very nice introduction to Ibanez guitars. They are a blast to play and are very underappreciated in todays market. I disagree with Yogi-the AR30's rarely fetch more than $350 on Fleabay-seems that , without binding and fancy inlays there is not much interest. I dropped a note to the seller with my 2cents and he was....well...lets just say ...unappreciative.....

These seem to share construction techniques with the Studio series: setneck with center block and Ash wings, V7 ucovered pups. There are a lot of controls for a budget model! It looks like this is a flat top body, correct?

I bet it screams!

Oops, the specs say the AR30 has uncovered Super 70s, not V7s.

Just got the coolest email from the seller...apparently he has no intention of selling the AR30, he was just generating interest in his other items....and apparently his strategy worked as all his other auctions are doing well ! Check out his comments....

"Dude...What makes you think I want to sell my guitar ?
I'm getting a zillion page views. I sold the cross promoted items that I wanted to sell the first day.
Thanks for your input...."

Unreal-what a great advertising ploy !

On second thought-his comments ring untrue- I looked at his other items and hes not setting the world on fire, he got less than 500 hits on the auction. I follow EBay closely and if an auction that has the words "Ibanez Artist" doesn't get at least 1000 hits, there is something wrong !
I think this seller knows nothing about guitars and thought he had the holy grail or something...You have to admit, his rationalization was very creative-though unbelievable....

Before seeing the "fairy-tale" response, I thought the seller was just ignorant. With the kind of answer that he gave, he strikes me as not an honest person, or at least, sly.

It is tempting to call his bluff. Set up a secondary ebay account, click the buy it now and see if he REALLY isn't looking to sell the guitar. Then when he comes to collect the BIN (because you KNOW he will) quote his message to Dave stating "I thought you were not looking to sell this and were just using it to generate interst in your other items". Let's see how he reacts to that. I agree with ACE, this guy is either
A) less than honest
B) sly in the most negative sense of the word

I have to agree with Ace and Jeff. Dave quotes him, by his own admission, he is offering an item for auction with no actual intent of selling it. He is offering the guitar only as a ploy to get bidders to look at and to bid on other items that he does want to sell.

As an adverstising ploy the guitar auction is a lie, a scam, dishonest, and unethical. Again, by his own admission, he has made a willfull, deliberate, and intentional attempt to deceive and in so doing has succeeded and profited. He should be ashamed of himself.

If you had a sister, would you want her dating him?

Hi Guys,
It's my guitar. My listing.
I wasn't going to respond for a while, but I took exception to the comment about writing me and that my response was "I dropped a note to the seller with my 2cents and he was....well...lets just say ...unappreciative....."
At the time I had only received one email, and hadn't responded. A flame is implied. I don't flame anybody.

I have had quite a few rude emails.
LOOK - nobody is going to use buy it now. The price draws attention. As for the asking opening bid - What could I replace this guitar with ? It is the only Artist I would buy. It's very light.
Other artists are not. I don't CARE FOR binding, and I truly hate gold hardware. This guitar absolutely screams. Can I be sure that one like it will be the same ?
Can I do what I wish with what is my own ?
Lighten up - players have different mindsets than collectors. I have standing offers from people that have heard it at night clubs, though great tube amps. That' my world.
Gave you something to talk about...
Bless you all.
Truly no offense intended.
Rick Hall

Bluz..You make a very valid point-sure you can do whatever you want with your money and your guitar, and -for sure-expect that some folks will not agree with you and may comment on it. Ebay is a public forum and you should develop somewhat of a thick skin, especially when you put unrealistic BIN prices and opening bids-even if you had you reasons. That is no excuse for any rude or inflamatory e-mails. Sure people are entitled to their opinions and we share those opinions on this post-In all fairness to the posters, I'll sell ya 6 of those AR30's in better condition than yours for less than your BIN-Also, your not the only player on the board-I gigged one of my AR30's LAST NIGHT and absolutely KILLED Santanas Black Magic Woman thru a 100 watt Marshall head/stack.......}

Bluz,

Don't try to rationalize your actions. If somebody DID use the BIN, you'd take the money and run.

If the ad was only to draw attention, why did you make such a fuss about the "rarity" of the guitar? Take your BS elsewhere.

"The price draws attention"

Yes, it sure did. Careful you what you ask for...you just may get it. Quite frankly, I can't see how that sales strategy works. Lets play it out...Oh, I think I want to buy an AR30. Wow 2300? That seems expensive. What the hell, I'll just buy this liberty dime instead...

"What could I replace this guitar with ? It is the only Artist I would buy"

I'm at a loss to figure out why the replacement value is coming into play here. If its the only guitar you would buy, and you already have one, then you shouldn't have to consider what it would cost to buy another. In other words, don't sell the friggin' thing! Keep the one you have.

BLUZ... THESE GUYS HERE THAT ARE ADDRESSING YOU.... THEY DARN SURE KNOW THEIR STUFF. IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING SOME OF THE INSIGHT THEY HAVE. JEFF, ACETAN, ORVAL, JOHNS, MICHAELK, AND OTHERS ARE REMARKABLE INDIVIDUALS WHEN IT COMES TO THIS STUFF. YOU PICKED THE WRONG BUNCH OF GUYS TO "STRETCH THE TRUTH" IN FRONT OF. OH WELL... LIVE AND LEARN. WHAT YOU DID WAS A BIT UNSAVORY. BUT... WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, MYSELF INCLUDED. AT THIS POINT, WHAT'S DONE IS DONE. BUT... LIKE I SAID, THESE GUYS HAVE WAY TO MUCH KNOWLEDGE FOR YOU TO CIRCUMVENT WITH YOUR FANCY FOOTWORK. BE A NICE BOY... PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS!

Hey guys I have a 79 GB-10nt in 95% condition, with a hand signed label on the inside, and considering the rarity, I would let it go for about $6000.00 Would anyone be interested???

Sorry, I couldn't resist

I figure your GB10 is worth about four times as much as an AR30. You should sell it for $9,200. $6k is way low.

Seriously, the AR30 seller seems to have withdrawn the BIN. I guess he may get some bids now.

Actually, the fact that you acquiesced and lowered the price only serves to support my position, not contradict it.

If you truly thought that the guitar was that rare, then there's no shame in putting that kind of price on it. And the subsequent lowering of the price after finding out otherwise would have been fine too. That's not what I'm observing (and it was an observation, not a judgment).

However, your actions after being contacted by some of the board members speak more than words ever could, and actions CAN be judged. This whole "Oh, I did it to draw attention" stuff is pure BS; simple backpedaling. And if you were using the high price to draw attention, then you're nothing more than scam artist.

So here's my judgment, you're either a potential scam artist or a guy that thought his merchandise was worth more than it actually was. There's absolutely no shame in the latter. We've all been in that position before. But if you believe that what you did was justified, then stick to your guns. But ask yourself this: If someone would have hit the BIN, would you have come clean and not taken the money? Your answer will help you judge yourself.

For the record, if your BIN was super-low, no one would have emailed you and told you your guitar is worth more than you're asking. So maybe we can all take that into consideration as well.

What do you know? I'm not speechless after all.

Honest truth. No problem.
I was offered an amount that I will tell you after the auction.
I figured if he would pay that to hang it in his store, it's worth more.
I would not have accepted the original BIN. It's easy to adjust in PayPal. But help break a paradigm when I'm offered large money from someone who should know ? absolutely. DO I think these are the sleepers in the Ibanez family ? absolutely.

I don't own any other Ibanez at the Moment.
My first was in 72, or 73. Much like the one Dave just got. Nice set neck. Trade a dual pickup Melody Maker for it. The Ibanez was far superior.I've had a couple of 59'ers. been looking for another. That's how I ended up with this last year. Had another LP, 1977 until last year.

Dude, I think its best you stop commenting....your "story" just gets worse & worse and more unbelieveable.. You private offer to me of $299 suprised me, I didn't bite at it because, frankly, I'm not convinced that I would ever see the guitar. But now you are insinuatng that someone would pay you more to "hang it in a store"....why offer it to me at all ? Breaking a paradigm ?... ZERO credibility.....
