I don't either. Looks like a newbie on eBay going after something he really wants and ended up getting it. Ace |

I would never pay that much for a bolt on SG or LP copy. To me its not a true replica without a set in neck. |

I've looked over the bidding history and can't tell who the winner was bidding against on the last day. Looks like himself? That doesn't make much sense. What am I missing? |

Well guys, I was communicating with the seller thru the auction and... I think it's a sure bet it's shilled up. He said "I've already been offered $1000 for the guitar" , this is when it was at apprx. $500... and not too much time left in the auction. I asked "why not kill the auction and take the $1000 then?" He said "I don't like killing auctions" Yeah right... for $500... he'd kill the auction. Plus... that's what he wanted anyway, that was his reserve. He WAS LYING. Then, all of a sudden, with little time left, a guy with ZERO feedback and new to ebay bids it right up to his reserve of $1000. Meanwhile, same exact guitar is on ebay now at apprx. $305. Why go nuts and bid to $1000 when you have a legit shot at same guitar for hundreds less. And... I've seen these go for closer to $550-$750 range, never $1000. although maybe I've missed some, if they went for that but... I follow them and it's usually in the $550-$750 range. If you would have gotten the responses I did from seller, you'd know his buddy bid this up. I won't be surprised if it's relisted soon. And... I bid early knowing it was a meaningless bid. He told me his reserve was $1000 and I said he'd never get it. I think he shilled it up.... for spite! |

Yeah it looks like a newbie bidder trying to find the Reserve in little bites... probably HOPING it wasn't $1000.00. I'm also with Ibanezfreak1960, why pay so much for a BOLT ON, now a grand for a setneck sounds a lot more reasonable... There'll be plenty others Bobzilla... "Oh no, there goes Tokyo." |

Yep... like I said... there's another on there now at $305. apprx. 3 days to go. Notice how I have not bid... Brent! Oh yeah... if you guys wouldn't mind letting me have a legitimate shot at the other one... I'd sure appreciate it. I had one... left in backseat of a car for 5 minutes. GONE and ... welcome to New York. Thank you very much. and... it was actually a great great guitar. It ripped on the 6 side and it was sweet on the 12 side. Absolutley no complaints about that guitar. It was red, which I prefer over the white. And...I'm surprised they don't command more attention. It was one of my favorites and I figure I've gone thru at least 75 guitras. Back to the topic.... This seller was a bit nasty and man I'd bet a few bucks it was a shill. My new problem: I just sold a 1978 Guild D15 acoustic for $500 U.S. 5 mins. ago on Ebay. Bidder is in U.K. and ZERO feedback, just joined Ebay TODAY! Yikes!!! I hope it goes smoothly, he already disregarded my "ship to the USA only." |

Hey if you use PayPal with the guy and do not ship to him until you have been able to transfer the funds into your checking account AND remove them into you warm little palm there is no problem. If the guy flakes on you then you can give a 2nd chance offer to the next highest bidder. From my experinceS (plural) dealing with people out of country is very pleasant. Realize to most of these foreign bidders these guitars are very hard to locate where they are and they're quite happy if you deal with them. USPS Express Mail the parcel to him, best and fastet deal on shipping overseas... No kidding. BigMike "History shows again and aqain How Nature destroys the folly of Men..." |

Bob - just poking fun... I know the meaningless bids, but I had to rib you because of a previous debate here... As for the auction action. I used to run things pretty easily and had good experience dealing with ppl. Heck, I even accepted personal checks from folks. But recently I sold a guitar twice to the same person (2 different accounts), and he stiffed me both times. Now I'm going to require paypal accounts on all my auctions, and require immediate payment on BIN items. Oh well, more money for eBay. On a side note, you ever try posting your fiddles for-sale on craigslist.org? I've thought about going that route... it's free... and if it sells, it's greenbacks... |

BigMike, enough with BOC references, man. You're making me feel old! Hey Bob, I don't understand the reasoning for the shill bidding. If he knew he was getting $1000, why not end the auction as you've suggested? If he would have just let it end under the reserve, he would have been under no obligation to pay the final value fee. If it was shill, it hurt nobody but the seller, right? Am I missing something? Thanks BigMike, now that I've got that friggin' song in my head I guess I'll have to dig out the old Spectres LP and drop it onto the turntable. Yeah, I still have LPs...and a turntable for that matter. js |

Hey Jeff, Get iTunes downloaded and look there - iTunes have 4 or 5 live versions... I own them all that is how I know... Big And what Jeff says is right. If the guy KNEW he had a deal for a grand he should have pulled the ad or let it end below reserve. Then he could sell outside of eBay and not pay the final value fee (which is what, like $40.00 more) and save the money. |

Hi Bigmike, He would save on the final value fee but will have to pay the reserve sale fee which is the same amount. Either way he's out the fee for $1,000. Ace |

Freak...... how the heck did I miss that red one? Man... that stinks... wish I would have seen your post. Thanx for the attempt though, much appreciated. Jeff... you are correct, it was a shill and... it hurt no one. But still, it stunk for me because I legitimately wanted a fair shot at the guitar. Getting back to my fear of this jerk that bid on my Guild... Here I will cut and paste his correspondence to me about his intent to pay. I sent the guy an e-mail calling him an A**hole and told him to jump in the lake. Here's what he sent me.... "Hello Seller, My name is Hickok David.I am really very happy to be the bids winner of your (1987 GUILD D15 ACOUSTIC) ,how are you and your everything over there,i have contact my shipper and he told me that he will come for the pick up of the (Ibanez PF512 12-String Guitar) from your place as soon as the transaction must have been sealed. This is how the payment will be made,a client of mine in U.S is owing me some funds $3500,I will instruct him to issue a Cheque in your name and once the cheque clears,You will deduct the cost of the (1987 GUILD D15 ACOUSTIC) ,compensation and any tax incurred and my balance will be send back to my shipper via MONEY GRAM for immediate shipping arrangement. The reason for this is that it takes 2-3 days for a cheque to clear there while it takes a longer time for a cheque to clear here.If this is okay with you do get back to me with your full name, contact address and phone number asap for me to instruct my client to issue the cheque in your name asap. Thanks for your understanding in anticipation and hope to read from you today. Best regards, Hickok David. N.B:I will compensate you with $50 for the running arround and transportation and also to consider the item sold to me." My fears were well founded! |

I believe "Godzilla" from BOC is in F#? Try F#, B, C#, Ab, A as the first few chords, but... that's off the top of my head... I happen to think it's a great song and I used to knock it around a bit, I think those are the opening chords. |

I can't believe ppl are still running that scam. Bob, as unsavory as it may be, might think about requiring Paypal only on your auctions.. no checks, money orders, etc etc.. I saw one of those forged money orders once, from a guy I purchased an amp from off craigslist.org - they look very legit... watermarked and all! |

Oh and Bob... you should expect some eBay account phishing emails in the near future.. When I got caught up with a scammer, I received them for months and months... then the PayPal phishings.... sorry bro.. just a heads up. |

Bobzilla, was this guy the only one that bid ?? If you had other bidders try the 2nd Chance thingie: you send them an email offering them a 2nd Chance at their high bid... Or you can relist - if this is the first time you listed I think you can relist for free. ANYWAY real sorry about this guy with the check scam, I've seen those used but it's been a LONG time. And Brentm is right: expect a lot of scam mail. I wouldn't open any of it - just toss it without openeing it. IF you are in doubt as to the status of your eBay or PayPal accounts go directly to those websites and check/update your info FROM THE WEBSITES. Sometimes ya really gotta work to earn the money, other times it's a real walk in the park... BigMike |

BigMike, yes... he was the only bidder. Between my own account and the Ebay transactions I do for my company, I've done over 1,500 Ebay transactions without much problem maybe 2 or 3. Including this knucklehead with the Guild deal. I am very aware of the Ebay/Paypal scam e-mails but... this check "cheque" scam was a first for me. I reported it to ebay (which is a complete waste of time) and I was pretty vulgar with my reply to the bidder. I am attempting to recoup my fees but Ebay is horrible with this type thing. |

Bob, eBay is great as long as you don't ask them to do anything for you... It's a great place to browse and shop and most of the time it's really fun. But then you get a seller that doesn't ship the goods, or someone who lists a dvd for sale that doesn't really have it in hand, or a buyer that has some scheme to part you with your product (for nothing). Mostly I buy on eBay. The few times I had sold on eBay I had something happen that left me a little gunshy. But recently I sold two great guitars through eBay and each gutiar deal went smoothly and the people I dealt with (including the non-buyers asking questions) were really nice... Best just chalk the whole thing up to dealing with the public and relist. It'll sell. Sometimes the perfect buyer just wasn't looking when you had it listed the first time - or didn't bid because of financial reasons the first time around and manages to get it together when you list it a 2nd time. Hang in there... Big |

I saw it, was watching it. About a week ago, one went for under $500. When this got over the $650 mark, I declined. Shipping would have been additional. I am looking for a red one/set neck, like I had but... at a decent price I'd take one of these. I think this one had some cosmetic issues, if I recall. |
