OK now that I have your attention. There is virtually 27 pup combination/configurations on the 78 MC300NT I'm going to go check out this weekend. Not ever having/or needing coil splitting capabilities or phase reversing, how many are sonically desirable? Give me an idea what to listen for. Yea it's up to me and what I hear but I'd like a few opinions on Musician pick-ups from those who know something about them. The pros and cons. Maybe I've read too many "tone sucking" tags regarding stock Musician pups. Help a newbie out. Boo |

Boo, all I know are the Artist models from that era...pups are different but the electronic guts seem to be the same. If the mini-toggles provide an out-of-phase mode (usually the up position for each pup), then as an isolated mode (e.g. one pup on and in the o-o-p mode)it will sound like doo-doo...don't worry, it is supposed to have a massive cancelling effect. But, when mixed with the second pup (main selctor in the middle) in one of the other modes (straight humbucker series mode for instance) the sound is very cool with chords. If the pups are not wired for out-of-phase, then they are usually parallel/single coil/series (humbucker) and provide their own unique sound when tweeked with the tone/EQ controls. Hope that helps. I'm sure other Musician fanatics will chime in eventually - there are lots of them here. Strings |
