I'm thinking about picking up either one of these two guitars(if I win....lol) for my son...any opinions from anyone on either of these two, good or bad would be appreciated....

Both are heavy as can be. How strong is your son?

I beg to differ, I have a 2617 and it is not
a heavy guiter. I'm not a big guy, 5'7" 150 lbs
and use it three-four sets a gig. Good luck Pit Viper, hope you get the 2617, it's a great guitar.

My '77 2617 looks just like the '76 one being auctioned. It is definitely as heavey as every other Artist I have. Still, it's great guitar.

What do you all think about the pickup switch from super 80's to the super 90's as mentioned on the 2617?

PitViper:

Never heard of the Super 90, but it sounds really interesting. I'd buy the guitar no matter what pups were in it.

Here's a '77 2617 NT on ebay. Please use the ICW-friendly URL to place bids, if possible:

i tried both links above, both said listing was removed. If you get the ar500, may want to put a strap button at the base of the neck to balance the guitar, it's up to you and... guitar is not so heavy that it should affect your decision to buy. Does have some weight to it though.

On closer inspection of the headstock photo showing the serial number, I'd say this is a July '76 2617.

Bob:

The links from Pitviper's message are from August 2005. Too old.
