After playing many Ibanez guitars, it's obvious to me that I like some necks more than others. I think it would be nice to have an online comparison of Ibanez necks. I would find it valuable to know the characteristics of each model's neck (ie: scale length, # of frets, neck thickness, neck width, fret size, neck/top heavy [like the 2680/2681], etc). I guess subjective info could help too (ie: I have small hands and the neck on model xxx is too fat, etc).

Some specific questions I have are:

- are all Professional necks the same?

- does the 24-fret 2618 have the same scale length as the 22-fret 2619? Assuming it does, I assume this means that the 2618 frets are somewhat closer together possibly making it more comfortable for someone with small hands?

- somewhat neck-related: are the pups on the 24-fret 2618 closer together than the pups on the 22-fret 2619? Is the answer the same for 2619's Type I, II & III?

- Weir told me that the Cowboy neck is wide (compared with his other guitars) and thus he needs takes time to adjust to it. How do you Cowboy owners feel about the neck?

btw...I loved my Weir Pro 2680 neck, however, my '81 MC550 has the most comfortable neck I've ever played (thinner than the Artist, 24-fret, 25.5").

i stated a similar thread a lot of time ago. it would be vey nice to have a database of ibanez neck dimensions.
however it's not so easy as it could appear...

Ah yes, I see.

I'll still take answers to my specific questions...

Thanks,

Dude... this ain't scientific measurements and all but.... the neck on the ar5000 is so totally awesome.
It's a thinner neck than all the other IBZ's I've owned and... this is weird but... it feels "harder." Strange.... hard to explain... but true. I may have those neck dimensions around somewhere. I think I was looking at them yesterday... let me look around, if I find 'em, I will post them. The ar1200av has the widest neck(s) of all IBZ's I've played and they remind me of a Gibson neck. Broad and flat. It feels like a Gibson neck on the ar1200. Again, unscientific but...

I have an SA that feels fine, but not quite "right" for my hand. The RG neck is just as thin, but a bit wider, giving me just a little more comfort.

But, then, that's why they make both Fords and Chevys.

I personally like Roadstar2 necks, but out of the 4 that I own, there is variation - even between the same model and year. My favorite is on a 1983 RS505CS, the first Roadstar2 I bought. Fairly narrow and not too thick, it fits my hand like a glove.

Maybe this is of use; I did a comparison of the necks of my guitars.
You can find the overview at the end of the thread:

nice, wini! how useful would it be to have a datasheet of many ibanez models.
i know a neck feel is subjective, but anyway having the measures is a nice point to start with.
