Ok guys, here is my issue: I have an MC500 available to me, that's in kind of rough shape. Having a little trouble deciding what to pay (working under the assumption that all electronics etc are ok). Here is a couple of Pics. Looks kind of like a project. Didn't someone else here do a restore of an MC500?

DAt aint no MC500 ! Looks like some sort of LE version-note the slab shape (vs the carved on the 500) and the Varitone type switch (not a standard offering on a MC500.. |

That's a standard MC-300DS with a replaced Volume knob, the knob of the 6-way rotary switch might be replaced as well. That switch is a standard feature of the MC300 since October 1979. Since the guitar has the second version of the Gibraltar tailpiece with the slanted slots, the Output jack on the side and the different neck heel, I assume it's a 1980 model. Juergen |

Heh...can ya tell I'm a noob? So, all that having been said...and the general not-so-good condition of it, what would it be worth likely? I'm kind of excited about refinishing it, and it's probably not that valuable so I won't have a breakdown if it doesn't turn out well. Consensus? What would you guys pay for this beast? |

My worthless opinion... just based on the cosmetic issues I can see is.... $300. It looks like a lawn mower got it. So... if there are other issues, which I assume there are, then $250-$300. But... get some other opinions. |

I disagree with this being a "standard mc300 with replaced knobs." The mc300 doesn't have those white dots. The selector switch there by the dots is most likely original, it's that other black control knob that does look like a replcement. I had a '78 mc300ds not long ago, I do not believe this is a standard mc300ds. |

Big Mike... yes it is! Well, it's all original and it's alot of fun really, this '78 mc500nt. Great shape too. Sits in a vintage Ibanez flight case. |

Bobzilla, here's a scan of the 1980 catalog that shows the 2nd version of the MC300 with the 6-way rotary switch. It's the older version with the output jack on the top, though. The Volume knob of the guitar on the pics Stogie provided was obviously replaced and the rotary switch should have a Chickenhead knob. As far as I can see from the pics, that one seems to be a replacement part too. The guitar in the pic you uploaded has chrome hardware and no Tri-Sound switches, so it's either a MC100 or MC200. I agree with Juergen on this one.. Very late -79 or -80 MC300DS.If it were MC300 Limited edition, it would have "Limited Edition" inlay on the end of the fretboard. It also lacks the multi-ply neck of the MC500 (or even MC400, which has flat body also) BTW. Does anyone know anything about black MC 300:s? Not a refin, but factory original colour.. |

Zilla - are you sure that's a 500? I have 3 Musicians and my '78 500DS has 3 tone controls above the 3 eq knobs. As far as the 300, I'm guessing you could probably turn around and sell it on Ebay or something for around $4-500, but that's just my guess. At the end of the day if you aren't a serious collector all that should matter is it's playability and sound. Does it still sound okay? Are the electronics intact? |

Jdd... I'm sure it's a 1978 mc500nt. Unless someone can tell me why it isn't. |
