I have what I believe is a 76 or 77 white Ibanez Custom Les Paul. It looks 100% exactly like the white guitar in this photo:

http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans/1976KALA2/go/o-9.jpg

However, the catalogue pic says it's a 1976, but my serial # is A771586. The catalogue doesn't show a 1977, and the 1978 they show is different from mine in a few subtle ways. For instance, where the body meets the neck on the non cutaway side, my guitar doesn't have that little "curl" that the '78 has.

So, I have 2 questions

1 - what model guitar do I have? It has super 70's pups, if that helps, bolt on neck, & all gold hardware.

2 - I want to restore her - I don't want/need original parts - can I just get stock Les Paul type hardware? I want to replace the tuners, tune o matic bridge, stop tailpiece, vol/tone knobs, jack cover, toggle switch, nut, pick guard, & the 2 plates on the back which cover the electronics, & possible the wiring & pots, too. Or do I need to specify a certain year/model Les Paul to make sure I get parts that fit & line up w/ the original screw holes?

Thanks in advance, I just stumbled onto this site while doing research for my above mentioned "project". I'm sorry if this question has been asked a million times before, i did a search & couldn't find the specific info I needed.

Thanks again,
Marc

Marc:

Sounds like you have a '77 model 2350. That was the last year Ibanez importd these LP "replicas" into the US.

By the time the 1978 catalog came out they had done away with the "copies". What you are seeing in that catalog is the Performer series. Absolutely inspired by the 2350 LP-look-a-likes, but somewhat different. The PF100 and PF200 series where about the same quality as the early 2350s. But the PF300 and PF400 were much higher quality-wise.

Probably any hardware that doesn't need to match existing threads and stud spacing, could be replaced with american hardware. You'll probably find it easier to acquire Japanese parts that fit better. Gotoh made a lot of Ibanez's original hardware and are pretty good for replacement parts.
