I don't know whats funnier, the description, the ridiculous and very obvious refinish, or the obscene price ! Seller convienently forget to mention the botched poorly cut brass nut replacement..(one picture shows typical finish damage to the neck by the e string) Ebay Item #170101419034 |

I think it's not brass a Graphtech nut, that was originally cut to play lefthanded. Serial nr. 3??? No year, no month. It's indeed an obvious refinish. It's a mica finish with abalone/MOP effect. This kind of finish is NOT typical for the late 70s. My cousin works at Merck Chemical in Germany, they make these pigments and paints, (like they made the colour for Viagra, the only colour they ever SOLD for many millions instead of licensing it). I could ask him how old this type of paint is. Ginger |

There looks too much sinkage in the finish too for it to be original. Ibanez finishes are quite smooth. |

If you look closely at the pickup surround screw hole, you can see that this guitar was originally AV..... |

Definitely a refin, silverflake car paint was available, but if we add that "variochrom" (BASF tradename) effect, I'm afraid it was available in the late 90's..Earlier silverflake car paints were just "silverflake".. Star tuners, lefty graphite nut definitely.. And last, but not least, very shady serial n:o.. Ibanez way to make serials, as often discussed here, was to fill the impressed numbers with golden "putty", there are really impressed numbers underneath.. Very limited number 3... All PF:s would have a proper serial, I guess.. Verdict: The paint on the top is from completely different era, the guitar is clearly a refin. |

Sharp eyes Dave. The shielding in the cavity was also removed , presumably so it could be painted. Another vintage PF bites the dust. Was it likely a black finish originally? Why would the s/n be removed/refinished? Seller lowered BIN $300. |

Dave..are you sure about the AV finish? I thouht only the PF400's had AV finish. The PF300 had AM. |

Mattfrox, you were misinformed. In 1978 the PF300 was available in at least 9 different colours. AM was just one of them, so was AV. I checked only ONE catalogue, it's possible they added other colours during the later years. I stopped looking when I found the AV. http://www.t3-kundenserver.de/htmlpages/redasys/_c ore/databases/t_meinl-uploads/1978_gesamt.pdf If the Sultan says AV, AV it is... Ginger |

Mattfrox wrote "Seller lowered BIN $300." As I remember it, the obscene price Dave was talking about was $1600.- or am I wrong? If I'm right, he lowered the BIN $700.- I wonder, whether that will be enough. I've seen a beautifully airbrushed blue Paula months ago for about $800.- As far as I know, it did NOT sell. Collectors don't pay for the spray job, they pay for the real McCoy. All he can do now, is hope that some player falls in love with it. Ginger |

He's lowered. Has anyone here mailed the seller and told him his fortune yet? six |

I think he already knows. He's obviously been reading our posts. He's worrying about his feedback rate and will probably even have to take a loss on this deal, if he sells... I have an amount in my mind, but I won't make him any sicker. Ginger |

He forgot to drive one of the cavity screws back in.

Needs a little bit more flush-sanding and some topcoats more, too much "orange peel" there still.. And the screw.. |

There are signs of the old finish as well under that crappy paint job so the prep work is poor also. |

have you noticed this guys Ebay handle? it's "meestursparkle". Notice the "sparkle" in there and notice the "sparkle" on the axe. I smell a trout, a salmon and a sand shark. Something is fishy. I'd like to check his past auctions for other sparkling things. |

I already did that. Not much sparkle really. He is the same guy who tried to sell an AS100 with a BIN of 2K or make an offer. Read the thread "AS100 on the bay for holiday money" Finally he lowered the BIN to $1050.- and sold it. What's obvious, is that he's a salesman. Always looking for something special not for his own collection, but just for the profit. He sold 50 guitars in the $1000-2000 range during the last 30 days. We are talking about a circa $80,000.- turnover during the last month. From the description of the work of "some idiot", I understand that he recently bought the guitar and that he's not a collector who's cashing after many years. If he were, he would have noticed the refinish etc. Ginger |

Hey, he hides the identity of his buyer. He normally does NOT do that: Ebay Item #170097824455 So, he could have bought his own guitar in order not to damage his reputation / feedback rate. So let's watch his feedback the next weeks. And look for item 170101419034. And look at the age of the eBay identity of the buyer. If it's very recent, you know enough. Ginger |

It says: "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing." Maybe he reads this forum and got nervous? -Chuck |
