I would guess, no. The location looks like a compromise to fit into the existing control cavity. I think it would be difficult to get in between the control knobs to work the mini-switches. That looks like a rosewood fretboard, no? Is this a transition model? Not really a 2618? But not the 22 fret AR100, either? |

If I remember correctly, the pups are non-original. |

John & Michael, I would vote for "transition" AR 100.. As in some other threads people commented, the year 1979 was a year to "get rid" of the older type thin bodies with smooth heel and pickup near the neck joint.. The tuners are Korean, made by Ping and are quite new..pickups could be Super80s originally, or not..but the tri-sound switches are definitely an add-on.. Switch paddle-shape is same as in Gotoh switches, but original Tri-Sounds usually are black in colour, if you check your guitars, on AR500 and other active models the 2-pole switch for preamp is usually chrome. |

Strings, I meant originals..although those in the picture can be Super58s and also original..transition... They had still quite a few Super80s in 1979, so my guess is, they would use the existing stocks out, as any manufacturer.. |

That looks like it's been slightly modded lower model... ;) My guess is a 2616 as the AR100 didn't exist at that point in time, it's a 2 piece back with plastic control cavity cavity covers and dot markers on rosewood. Those pickups are definitely aftermarket, didn't Super58's have 3 screw adjustment in the mid 80's? Someone's pimped their lower spec Artist. I doubt if it's a transition "model". |

Sky....2616? Not sure where your going with that assesment-the 2616 is a ES175 knockoff....Anyway, my bet is tht this is a AR100 that has had its creme colored V-2's replaced with some sort of gold covered humbucker. The splitter switches are , without a doubt, a later addition. Check out the 1979 Artist family portrait from the catalog

Ooops...Found mention of the 2616 on an Artist site in respect to models made in '79, assumed it was similar to the equivalent AR100. Not a 175. Oh well... |

Interesting that in the '79 catalog the description of the AR 100 includes 'chrome plated hardware' yet the photo shows gold plated hardware, as indeed my '80 AR 100 has. The Artist series appears to have been in constant fine tuning throughout its golden era.. |

My vote would be non-factory splitter switches on that guitar, Michaelkaufman. No way Ibanez would put them there. |
