The 1985 catalog refers to the AR120 as being a lighter weight Artist. Has anyone ever seen this model?? http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1985/p18.jpg http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1985/p19.jpg Click on each page for a blow-up. mk |

Michael, I have an AR120. I don't have a digital scale, by my bathroom scale has it around 8 lbs. js |

My '86 AR120 was a little lighter than my '82 AR112, but that might have been the absence of 6 extra tuners... The AR120 is one of the guitars I kick myself for selling. Steve |

Steve, Though I haven't seen an AR120, according to the catalogue Michael cited, it's lighter because its body is "leghtweight basswood." BTW, I'm now finishing a spec sheet of various ARs (and their related models), and going to put it on my home page soon. |

Other things that would make it lighter is the lack of a separate tail/cloud and the use of IBZs with their plastic covers instead of 58s. Now I know that doesn't amount to much, but every little bit helps. I was drawn to the AR120 specifically because of its IBZ pickups. I have an RS530 with IBZs that I absolutely love the sound of. I think they "coil tap" better than any other pickup Ibanez offers. I just hate the trem on the 530. So the hardtail AR120 fits the bill perfectly. IMO, they really are nice little (still relatively inexpensive) Artists. js |
