There are two interesting guitars up for sale that I just came across and I thought I'd see what your thoughts are on these modified (?)makes.

This one is supposedly an original Artist series made up like a Musician:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Artist-Vintage-and-Rare_W0QQitemZ7386475678QQcategoryZ33043Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This one has had a Bigsby added:

So what do you think? Original Artist Musician? Anybody added a bigsby to their artist?

Artistseeker:

The first is an early '78 Artist Custom model 2710. Very nice, but it has changed tuners, pickups and bridge.

As for the second, I've never added a Bigsby to an Artist. I don't think the guitar is worth anywhere near $950.00.

I'd take the first Artist Custom 2710.

John, I belive that there will be a lot of interest in the 2710, especially from bidders with NOS part-it looks to be in VERY good shape......

I think you are right Dave. He does say that he has the original (replated) bridge, sans the saddles. What would be the original pups, Super 88s?

Here's the ICW-friendly version of both ebay auctions:

1978 Artist Custom, model 2710:

1982 AR100 with Bigsby:

Wow, given the spelling 'Ibaneaz', I wonder how you found this auction? Do you guys search for 'Artist' and 'Musician' and wade through everything?

The 2710 is a beauty.

As far as the AR100 is concerned, the lister has a bunch of overpriced vintage Ibanez guitars listed.

With '0' feedback, maybe he needs some experience

Yeah I have no interest in these, thought someone else might though. I'm amazed that some listers are asking for so much for modified artists. Maybe they will learn and relist at a lower price.

There's a guy who has re-listed a "quilt top" Artist 6 times now (that I've noticed) Keeps asking $1200. Looks like a nice guitar but... you would figure after 6 listings without a bid he'd drop the price. He has not.

Bob,

That's a guitar center selling that 105 and you're right, its been around for about 6 months. Any seller that begins with "gcrep", is guitar center. Their prices on used gear is odd at times.

Jeff... that's the one. I noticed it was GC too, I had forgotten. By the time GC is done with continually relisting that guitar, they won't make a profit. It's a nice one though. I think it's overpriced by about $400-$500.

Funny you should mention GC's ebay auctions. I talked to someone from Instrument Exchange at the NAMM show, they set up an auction program for GC. The IE rep works with each store to train someone to take pictures and fill out the template and capture the needed data. Obviously, this training is not always effective.

I talked to the rep about crappy photos and high prices. They are supposedly starting a system where unsuccessful auction reserves will automatically be reduced and relisted. Let's see if it works.

John, I actually contacted this particular GC about this particular "ad nauseum" re-listing. I was nice, I said... "I know a bit about these guitars, you've listed it 6x already that I've seen, I think you're a bit overpriced, you should consider lowering it about $400." Response: "Don't bid then." I said, "I won't, I haven't, nor will anyone else." So... I guess they are happy wasting their time and money. Keep in mind though, when GC takes in a guitar, they really take advantage of you. They have to make a profit, yes, of course... They'll give you $250 for a thousand dollar guitar and then try to sell it for $1200, which is probably the case with this axe. PURE GREED. (I guess they have alot of overhead.)

Bob:

If you can, email me (let's not clutter the board with this) the link and particulars of the conversation (the store location and any names, if you remember). The IE rep said she wants to hear complaints. I'll pass it along.

No apology needed. The discussion is appropriate.

What I should have said was "let's not clutter the board with the details of your phone conversation that only the IE rep needs to hear about."
