Here's a very interesting one: It appears to be a 1980 AR100 with Super 80's. I assume the switch was added. We were just talking about this model recently. Looks to be in very nice shape and the price was very reasonable.

Michael, I think this is the "forgotten" AR 200 live.. :-)
Here's info from spec-sheet..
AR200
features:
- Super 80 pickups, Tri-sound on the neck position only.
- Abalone dot markers
- Gold hardware
Did not stay in the lineup past 1980

What do you think, fellow ibanezers? Agree?

The AR100 '79 had 'batwing' pegs, this one has pearliods...so, more support for Ginger's AR200 thought

Fox:

I'd say you are correct. Looks just like the AR200 in the '79 catalog, to me.

I wonder if the buyer knew exactly what he was getting? $600 BIN was really a great deal.

Hi Everyone, I am the guy who got this one. I had been watching the Artist for a while and knew it was a good deal, but wasn't sure exatly what it is. I didn't think it was an 80' but more like a 78' with the serial number D804678, and the flying finger pup's. Any other information on what this beast is would be appreciated. Needless to say this is my first Artist, (I guess I am graduating from my 81 Blazer) and reading this forums in the past has really paid off. I'll be sure to post some more pics when it arrives...now I cant wait for it to show up!

An outright steal BP!! I truely believe this axe is all stock and quite rare. Sans the ash body, the 250 had all the same appointments as yours. And from the lousy pics, everything looks perfect...I'm not even sure there is much tarnish/fading on the hardware...wait and see...

I think what throws anyone off in the ad is that there is a fair amount of body grease on the finish...a good bath and wax and I bet we'll all marvel at the pics.

Welcome to ICW and, more specifically, to the 79ers club!

And look, even Ibanez could not find one for the catalog pic ;

joke's on the seller

Scroll to page 4. You will also see the AR400.

Hmmm...that's the 79 US cat...the pic above is from the German '80 cat. So, either Europeans like ash better OR the 250 replaced the 2 & 4 hundreds.

Just glad that ICW members covet at least one of each of these rare birds...right Fox?!

Thanks for all the info, I am getting an education on AR's and loving it. Now I am hooked and I haven't even recieved the guitar yet. So how rare are the AR200's? Where can I find production numbers?

Thanks again for all the posts, this is an absolutely fantastic board!!!

Strings, right! BP, I have no idea about production numbers, but I have not seen one before. However, since I luckily got one AR 400 there has been a couple more.. Guess those were not produced in large numbers, being sort of "in-between" models, perhaps only a handful were made until dropped from production. The "European market" AR 250 is also a seldom if ever seen one. They might have used all remaining 2617 bodies in making those, it seems to be quite the same, except that microswitch and dot-inlaid fingerboard..

Fox:

It's hard to tell from the pictures, do you think the AR250 has the abalone body binding?

John, it's almost impossible to say for sure.. I doubt it. But still, I think those are bodies for 2617, it would be quite stupid, business-wise, to set up tooling for that German carve just for some limited number of bodies, for only a limited market-area.. The routing for abalone-purfling on top of the body is for sure done later, so they might well have those bodies lying somewhere.

I don't have any production figures on the AR200, but here's a picture of the AR200 from a catalog dated Nov. 1979.

Here's another AR200 picture from a catalog dated Aug. 1979. Notice the lack of the tri-sound switch.

But the description says "...fingerboard pickup with Tri-Sound".

Maybe the switch was obscurred by fhe dark finish???

Hey, I just read I would have had an "AR200 thought", but it was Fox's. I saw what it was NOT: i.e. not a normal AR100, but Fox was the one who recognized the AR200.

Guys, Look closer, the switch is there..its just hard to see cause the guitar is black..draw an imanginary line from the base of the bridge across the guitar and another one straight up frm the first volume knob, where they intersect you will notice a slight, and I mean slight, discoration in the black backround color.....thats the switch I think
