Ekkerman..we used to think that that V2s were equivalent to Dimarzio Super Distortion but I think that opinion has changed. These pickups are much warmer/smoother and still pack some bark. The V2s use alnico magnets...maybe that's the kicker. By the way, I have also noticed that V2s voice really nicely depending on the type of wood that you put them into.

Welcome to the club! I've tried all kinds of replacements, and it's hard to beat a V2 in the bridge. The key for me is that they are warm AND clear. They have plenty of thick midrange but still have great definition.

In some guitars, they are heaven, in others they can be just a tad bright, particularly the newer ones. This is the case with the SC guitars.

Wow, FINALLY some people who I can agree with about V2 pickups. My 1981 AS-50 came with them
and what a great sounding hollowbody. I can play rock or jazz(just roll back the volume to 8-ish
for a great clean up) or full crank for manly rock.

I have V2s (old, cream, round poles - look like the old DiMarzio Super Distortion) in a Studio ST105 (4 pots, maple stripe) and they are just bright enough in the mahogany body - the maple's a veneer, I believe.

I didn't like them at first, but they are growing on me.

The only thing I wish is that they were 4 conductor, as I'd like to coil-tap them.

That's not a V2. That's a Super70. Different pole pieces.

The zebras (1st set) look like they have the correct pole pieces. But, I've never seen zebra V2's!

The second bunch look like Super70's. The DC resistance numbers support this.

All the early (cream) V2's I've seen have "V2" clearly stamped into the baseplate. Thay also have 12 of those wierd "round-hole-and-slot" pole pieces. DC resistance is around 15k ohms. Roughly twice what a Super70 shows.

The zebra V2s seem to be original, those were used in the '82 Studio Series right as the seller states.

OK, I've tried hard with the V2s, but they are not for me. I've replaced the neck with a DiMarzio PAF and I've a DiMarzio Dual Sound coming that I'll likely put in on parallel wiring.

So I'll have a pair of cream 1979 2 conductor V2s available if anyone wants to offer me a decent price - I also have the 4 knobs - the ones with the rubber grips. I am in the UK.

OK. The knobs & 1 of the V2s has gone.

I still have a cream, 2 conductor, 15.2K 1979 V2 for sale.

Any takers?

I've got V2's in my recently purchased '80 Ar100 AV and i think they're just fab...for live work they really are the biz....The guys in the band are all going on about how good the sound is!! ....only thing is...I think all that white plastic looks so cheap in comparison to all the gold plate and dark wood..it spoils the look of the guitar somehow so i've stuck on a spare pair of gold pup covers I had lying aroun with no detrimental effect to the sound..Does anybody EVER actually mess around with the individual pole pieces?
....Now I'd like gold or wood pup surrounds..anyone know where I could find such a thing?
the Super 70's in my '78 PF200 are really great and quite a unique voice, but somehow not as "grown up" and professional sounding as the AR100....Now that one is a Gibson killer!

Hi Chipsotoole

I work in a guitar shop and I will try to get you a pair of gold humbucker mounting rings. Not sure if they are available with 2 holes on one side and 1 on the other, though...
I´ll check for you in our supply-catalogue and will get back to you with prizes etc.

Kind greetz,
Harry

Yeah, i can just agree, my ´80 ar100nt came with the V2-s and they kick butt. Screaming and howling when cranked and clean up real good when dial the volume back a litle bit.

I thought they where the best until i purchased the ar500, but now i´m not certain anymore, the super58:s in the ar500 is even better but maybe that is due to the EQ.

Let me tell you about my 1979 ST100. I was ready to sell her until I plugged her in again a few weeks ago. For a while I was using amps that had 10 inch speakers. Then I set up my old 1964 2x12 cab made by Ampeg and drove it with (this is going to sound krazy) a 200 watt TOA powered mixer just to see what it would sound like. Wow I was blown away. Those V2's really sang to me. I was in love again. This TOA kicks and has compression reverb and a 15 band EQ plus other stuff I don't need for guitar but it does the job. So hooray for V2 pups.
