The serial number sticker is weird. Is this a refin?

Brent,

Not only is the sticker odd, the serial number is not 1 letter + 6 numbers as it should be for that vintage. I wonder if that sticker is covering the "real" serial number.

Obviously its hard to tell from the pictures if its a refin, but that finish was offered on the PF series. If I were to guess, I would say its NOT a refin. But I bet someone, at some point, didn't (or doesn't) want anyone to see the real serial number.

Here's the sellers response. I got a little testy about him publishing my eBay ID on the question I submitted..

am 100% shure about this guitar #1 I did not know that publishing your name was poor form. So sorry , My bad. This guitar was bought new in 1979 or eary 1980 in Bridgport WV. And is 95%.like new.

And nothing fishy about it at all. By the way it is not just a sticker, The serial number plate is inset in to the headstock. So get a biding man.

Fishy! Here is another trying to hide a serial number:

If they are going to hide these like this, why do they bother having a shot of the headstock???

HOT OR NOT!?

Heh..

Obviously most of the folks here are saavy enough to know that when a seller hides something, there's a reason.

There's always some uncertainty when dealing with used merchandise... It's unfortunate that searching the database that the authorities matinain is next to impossible (without merchandise in-hand).

However, as a seller. I'd be more prone to releaseing the serial number, and dealing with someone that had a claim against the guitar, rather than hiding it and passing on the bad karma.

Hi Brent, I do have this PF300 and that does'nt have a serial no., only a sticker where the serial no should be saying: "Grafton Garanty 480 IBANEZ". The Guitar is absout mint and original , so I wonder what does that mean??? You cant tell on the photo but it does say PF300 on the truss cover.

Jasma, thanks for the tip. That is strange, I wonder why they left the factory without the standard serial number.

Here's a 1978 PF300 with fancy tailpiece on UK Ebay. Please use the ICW-friendly URL to place bids, if possible:

Whats really cool about that one is the seller stages the guitar outside in the dirt...both front and back! Gotta love the respect there.,
