Howdy! I have an original late '70's Iceman which is in a bit of a state and would like to restore it, specifically to put one of those ornate art deco-ish tailpiece covers on!!Anyone know of a reputable dealer in the UK who could help me out? Got photos if anyone would like a gander... Thanks! |

We need photo's! ;) Which model and what year is it? I'm not sure, but the early models (circa 75) with the tail covers had a different fixing detail than later 70's models. To date, I've not managed to find any UK dealers who carry older Ibanez parts, I've managed to get a few bits from the US for my IC200 though. |

Photos available but no idea how to get them on here - if you give me your email address, I'll forward them. I also can't find a serial number anywhere on it, is this unusual or am I looking in the wrong place? |

Serial No.'s on the back of the headstock on set neck models, on the neck plate of bolt-on models. If you upload your photo's to something like photobucket, or your ISP's allocated space, simply put the URL of the pic in the text (call up the pic, right click, properties, highlight & copy the URL). |

I assume from that you have a set neck model then. If your Iceman doesn't have a serial no., then I doubt if it's an Ibanez. It could either be a Mirage or a Hondo in that case, and I'd take a guess at it being a Mirage, as the pics I have seen of them, they are pretty close to the original. The Hondo has a smoother "barb" on the lower horn. |

PS Couldn't the lack of serial number mean it was manufactured before 1976? I read that somewhere else on this website... |

Purple: It's possible that you have a pre-serial number model 2663 that could have been manufacturered in early '75. The pictures should answer most questions. |

And it all comes clear, definitely an early model, now I see why Purplefenderboy wants the tail piece cover. Nice looking guitar, good find! I was working on the assumption that it was a late 70's model as stated in the inital post. I'll keep my eyes open for a cover in the UK. |

Sorry, I'm not that up on the years each model came out hence my 'late 70's' comment. Many, many thanks for everyone's help, putting up the pix etc. It IS a nice guitar, of all the 'pointy' guitar shapes I always thought the Iceman was the most elegant and this is a really, really good player. Wouldn't mind at least TRYING to find original tuners and pick-ups, too, but I have a feeling these may be prohibitively expensive. Any re-issues of these available? |
