Aside from the more obvious (Maple top/Mahogany body VS Ash top/body, German carve, etc), what are some of the differences that you owners of both notice most?

For instance, how would you compare the tone between the two?

How about playability - I'm assuming that they have the same neck and heel design, but since I've never held a 2617 I don't know for sure. The '78 catalog lists them both with the smooth heel, but were they always the same as far as the body specs - aside from the "German carved" top on the 2617? (Did they both have the same carved top aside from the German carved edges on the 2617?)

At this point with the difficulty I'm having even finding a 2619 I'm opening up to the possibility of picking up a 2617 if a darker model comes along that I can get my hands on, but I'm really curious to know how they compare.

Any input is welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks!

Anyone? Anyone?

(Bueller? Bueller?)

I very well might have a Brown Sunburst 2617 in my future - and I am very curious as to your feelings about both the similarities and the differences between the 2617's and the 2619's.

If I get the 2617 I'm still going to get a 2619 in the future (as in, as soon as I can save up the money again to buy one - 6 months to a year, depending...), but I wanted to know what some discriminating and discerning Ibanez enthusiasts thought about both models in comparison to each other.

That's a really good question Rik,

With the Super 80's swapped out for Super 70's or something else to my liking I actually prefer the sound of the ash bodied 2617 over the maple/mahogany composite of the 2619. I like the sound of my Scruggs (ex) and Weir and they are Ash but both with Super 70's.

For a maple/mahogany I'd go for a Les Paul every time over a 2619. I was never totally happy with the 78' 2619 I owned and I think it was down to the wood they were using back then. When I got a 2617 a little later and then another some years after they sounded nicer to my ears. I only parted with both these 2617's a short time ago.

I guess others here will differ in their choice.

Thanks, Six.

Looks like I've got the Brown Sunburst 2617 on the way, so my "hopes and dreams" of a 2619 are temporarily on hold. (I just couldn't pass up the 2617 since you don't see them very often in AV or BS, and I think they look a lot nicer in those finishes.)

Still, I'd like to know what some others on this board who own both a 2617 and a 2619 think about the differences in the guitars.

I'll be able to compare the 2617 to my AR305, but there are significant differences in the AR300/305's and the 2619's as well.
