The Ibanez 2630 Artist is the daddy of the John Scofield preferred AS200 and the grandaddy of the newer Ibanez JSM100VT Scofield signature guitar. In '79 this was Ibanez's top of the line semi-hollowbody guitar. The body includes front and back binding (even the F holes have binding). The neck is adorned with gorgeous mother of pearl inlays. Great flaming on the front and back, which not all of these have. It has Ibanez Flying Fingers Super 80 Humbuckers, and there is a 3 way mini toggle switch for series/split/parallel sounds from the bridge pickup, a 3 way pickup selector switch. There are bridge and neck pickup volume pots (2) and bridge and neck tone controls (2). This guitar came from the factory with LOCKING TUNERS. I have the original pickguard with bracket, and pickguard screws, which are included and in the case pocket, but the guitar looks way better without the pickguard on it. This is a fantastic playing and sounding guitar. Considering the age this guitar is in great shape. As seen in the pictures, the previous owner decided to strip off the gold plating on the pick ups. This does not in anyway effect the sound. Some of the metal has a fair amount of oxidation, but again this does not effect the guitar's sound or playability. Also there are a few minor nicks and a small patch of scratches on the back. In my opinion, the guitar is in just the right shape. I say this because it has just enough wear to which you can feel totally comfortable playing it, but still will make people drool. The hardware can also be found with not much effort online if you would want to get it back to collector's condition. I have recently had the guitar completely checked out, restrung, and set up by a local DC luthier. While in the shop he did replace the jack due to a spotty connection. This is the only non-factory part on it. I do still have the old jack and I can assure you that the new one looks identical. The guitar comes with an old Gibson 335 HSC that fits like a glove. The case is locking (I still have the 2 keys) and is in great shape. Feel free to contact me if you would like to come by and give her a try. I also have plenty more pictures I can email. Trades are a distant possibility....as in it better be something awesome. Pictures here: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/msg/3758975 29.html |

Sarnia~ Welcome to the ICW. Nice 2630 ya got there. I really like the unique curl/flame patterns in the top and back. 2630's are still relative sleepers in the vintage market. It is my personal favorite and first ever Ibanez too. I gigged with mine last Saturday night and the players in the audience were diggin' the tones and the good looks. Good luck with your sale. |
