Hi guys, not sure how to put pictures on here but I can send you one if you'd like. These parts are both NOS and have NEVER been on a guitar. They are gold. I have an idea what I'd like to get for them but make me an offer! Thanks. jscottpeters@gmail.com Josh |

I have a Gibralter II bridge and tail piece with posts etc. Gold. Never used on a guitar. I've had them for several years, awaiting the perfect artist for restore. I would be willing to sell them. I also have some Super 58s - used. Let me know if this is what you need. eric |

An AR50 with a Gibraltar TWO? That's not in the catalogue. What is it: a late 1982 or an early 1983? Because what I see in the catalogues is GIBRALTAR ONE and of course in NICKEL CHROME (not in gold). Ginger |

What you see on the black AR50 in the 1982 catalogue is a MIXED SET of a nickel-chrome GIBRALTAR ONE in combination with a nickel-chrome QUIK CHANGE TWO. http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1982/05.jpg THAT MIXED SET is exactly the combination I have on my ST50 (1980). In the 1983 and 1983/'84 catalogues the AR50 has totally disappeared. It is possible that your guitar is a late '82 or an early '83, which was not pictured in any catalogue, but that's hypothetical. Just read the serial number. If you order the wrong set, it won't fit. Ginger |

You would need exactly what I described for the AR50 of 1982: http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1980-2/09.jpg Bridge: Gibraltar ONE nickel-chrome Tailpiece: Quik Change with slanted slots nickel-chrome (NO CLOUD). The pickups are Super 70 COVERLESS (cream white bobbins, looking like V2's from a distance but without the Allen polepieces). Here are the specs: http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1980-2/06.jpg Ginger |

Are the anchor bases (stud bushings) still in the wood, or does it just have two holes at the moment? What you should do is MEASURE the distance from the center of the first to the center of the second. You get the same result if you measure from inside edge of one to outside edge of two OR from outside edge of two to inside edge of one. Then you check if these distances are the same on any replacement bridge. BUT: it is NOT impossible to find the original parts. I have seen them on eBay, and they were a lot cheaper than the gold ones. The reason that the gold ones are so expensive is, that you use them to restore expensive high end Artist and Musician models and increase their value enormously. The value increase of an AR50 or an ST50, ST70 or whatever low end model is relatively small. It is difficult enough to get $500.- for a minty one. So if the guitar is worth $300.- or $350.- with non-original parts, how much does one want to invest in the parts? NOT hundreds of dollars. I suggest that you wait patiently. But if you want to play in the meantime: Any Japanese LP and ES-335 stop tailpiece will fit on these big lower studs. But the bridge has a different attachment system with small studs and nuts on top. It exists with and without a sustain block. I know that there are cheaper Korean sets of bridges and tailpieces that cost about €19.95 all together. I saw them in the Musik Produktiv catalogue a few years ago. If they fit, you can play while waiting for the originals to come. Ginger |

Also a good supplier of parts is Mighty Mite. Compare the measurements and the prices: http://www.mightymite.com/bridges/fixed/index.html http://www.mightymite.com/price/bridges.html |

Brian1: The pickguard will be like looking for a needle in a haystack! There are lots of us in the same boat because they tended to fall apart. So, there is a lot more demand than there is supply. The new JSM100 (John Scofield model) PG will probably fit, but it's plain B/W/B plastic, not the faux tortoise shell with w/B/W binding, like the original AS200. What kind of bridge does your AS200 have, the older ST or the newer Gibraltar II? The GibII is still available from Hoshino, but may take a while to get. If you are after an ST type, then that's another need-in-a-haystack search. Check out my solution in this thread: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/cgi-bin/discus/sho w.cgi?tpc=2216&post=71586#POST71586 Good news, the tailpiece is also the same as used on the newer JSM100. I'd also go with the JSM100's strap buttons. |

Johns, thanks so much for posting....I was beginning to think nobody ever read these things. I'll go look at your site next. Help me here: I don't know what ST or Gibralter II mean. Looks like a "tune-o-matic" to me. Brian |

ah.....good stuff on your site. You'll have to excuse me, this is the first and only "jazz box" I've every owned. Everything else is either a Martin acoustic or a Fender tele or strat. I bumped into the lovely Artist and didn't even know what a terrific guitar I was getting at the time. I'm trying to learn everything I can about it so I can restore it as best I can and still keep it relativly stock. That bridge for $27.95, will that fit my AS200? Here's another question for you: I do all my own set-up work on both acoustics and elsctrics and even build acoustics from wood I buy from Martin. But I've never set up a hollow body like the Artist. Where can I go to find proper procedures and specs for pickup height, angle, bridge height, etc. Maybe mine is stock but the plastic surrounds around the pups are angled one way and the pups another. And I have no idea what the pup heights should be. Should I just move the entire pup up and down or mess with the individual pole screws? Anything you or anybody else could tell me would sure be appreciated. Brian |

Brian, If I know the letter and the first two digits of the serial number, I know the MONTH and YEAR it was built. If I know that I can place a link to the right catalogue scan, so that you can see how the guitar should look like. The ST does indeed look like a tune-o-matic, but the Gibraltar II shows far more advanced technology. Most important feature of EVERY Gibraltar bridge is that it is steady as a rock. For that purpose it is attached with nuts or bolts, so you can't take it off without turning loose the nuts or bolts, when the strings are loose. This principle increases the sustain. A sustain block under that Gibraltar bridge increases the sustain even more. I don't believe I have any guitars with that sustain block, but on ebay I have seen Gibraltar ONE bridges offered complete with it. The sustain block requires a special routing under the bridge, so I don't think this is applied in semi-acoustics. What I find so good about the Gibraltar II is that it is rounded, smooth and with individual locking saddles. There is another golden Ibanez bridge that looks like a tune-o-matic: the Full Tune II, which was applied on the Artstar AS120, which was made in Korea. This guitar was discontinued in 2002, so that part could still be available. But the question is: DOES IT FIT? The Japanese ST bridge was made by Gotoh, so there is a good chance that the more recent Gotoh bridge that I found fits. Ginger |

Brian1: Here's the ST bridge that came on the AS200 in the late 70s and early '80s: Here's the Gibraltar II that replaced it: Here's the Ibanez JSM100 brige that I got: Here's the Gotoh bridge that Ginger found: Here's the specs: Gotoh Nashville Style Tunematic - Gold With Hardware, Studs and Thumbwheels 2 29/32" Post Spacing, 12" Radius $ 27.95 Soley based on the post spacing and radius measurement, I would say that this bridge would fit the AS200. I'm really tempted to try it out. |

Jazz, you are NOT replacing an ST, but a GIBRALTAR ONE. That's a rectangular nickel-chrome bridge with brass saddles. The L-5S would even look better on your guitar. I saw one on eBay this week. Don't know if it fits. Ginger |

OK, as long as you don't change any routings, you can restore the player to original any time you like, when parts are available at a more friendly price than 4goodvibrations is asking at the moment for the gold one. DID YOU SEE THAT? A $199.- starting bid and $235.- BIN!!! I can only advise you to be patient... Ginger |

I know that name... Some time ago he replaced all the original hardware + pickups of an 1982 Ibanez AM-205 for a customer, who tried to sell the guitar and the parts separately on eBay. Not a very successful operation in the eyes of collectors, but luthiers look with different eyes at a guitar: it's a TOOL, and when it gets rusty, they oil it, and if that doesn't work, they replace parts.
