Hey All,

I said I'd never sell it, but something has come along which I'm seriously considering, and the Iceman may provide the funds. Those of you who know these guitars know how rare they are (95 made in 1978), and they don't show up very often at all. Now I haven't been watching the market much in the past year or so, but the last one of these I saw on ebay reached a bid of over US$2300 and didn't meet reserve. I don't wish to sound greedy, but that is around what I need, and if I can't sell for that much then it's not worth selling at all.

It's in quite good condition, with a little buckle wear on the back, a small chip in the finish adjacent to the output jack, binding is cracked in places but still remains very tight, and a little scuffing on the edges of the headstock and the pointy bit at the bottom. No issues with the neck, frets show wear, but play well at any action and have plenty of room for dressing. All original hardware, as with any 70s Ibanez the gold has corroded. Anyway, enough rambling, here's some pics

As I look at the pics I've just posted, I realise they make the guitar look a lot worse than it really is - seems I have a knack for taking photos which exaggerate minor blemishes.

Forgot to mention, OHSC included in working condition (1 broken hinge, 2 still intact). Just realised I was wrong about 95 being made in '78, apparently the number is 117.

Anyway, I have just been given a firm quote on my desired next piece: AUD$3000 is what I need. I am probably being very silly to offer this guitar from a financial point of view, as I am selling to fund a custom Aussie build guitar which will most likely never hold the same value in a used market as the Iceman. But I've always considered myself a player (albeit a bad one), not a collector.

Hey Flatbag,

Its all about timing isn't it! Just last week I pulled the trigger on an IC210 from Sydney. If your IC400 was available then, maybe we could have done a deal.

All the best an good luck with getting your price.

Hey Spiro, I remember you renovated an IC210 pickup some time ago. Do you have any information on the wiring of the pickup selector and what the 4 positions are?

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Spiro, this weekend is probably out for me, unless you're in at Music City on Sundays? If so, I should be right to pop in then; if not next weekend looks free (while I'm at it, I should have a little 1 watt tube kit amp built by then which I'll bring in too).

You're right Munch, timing can be a real killer - I've missed out on some nice axes as a result of bad timing. Bad finances are an even worse killer though!

Cheers guys

hey Munch

I may have it lying around at home in a hard copy of wiring diagrams somewhere..

I'll have to dig it out..

Just a note.. the triple coil as i remember had a cover that was plated in nickel.. So I just buffed it back to its original shine without having to replate(pickup was really messed up had to solder the cover all back together.. If you need the original material to make a surround A guy here in NSW has some.. You require to build it up by gluing 2 pieces together,

Hey flatbag I'm out this weekend and next so will have to try and make it during the week if possible..

Hey Munch, there a original triple coil Iceman 2663TC at James Music in S.A.
The boys rang me about it the other day whilst they were in the store ( I had to identify it over the phone ). They reckon it's in mint condition. If you have time you might want to check it out. Maurice is the guy who owns the store, see what you think and let me know please.

Hi Spiro,

Thanks for the info. If you can dig out the wiring diagram that would be much appreciated.

Cameron, I have seen that particular guitar in James music many times over the years. It's an IC210 not a 2663TC. It does not have the big chrome tailpiece that the 2663 is so well known for.

There are some issues with the guitar - the pickup cover is non-original. In fact it was made by the guys at James music. Also the vol/tone knobs are from a non-Ibanez guitar. The biggest issue is the price - $4,800!!!!!!!

James Music is a shady kind of place. I would not trust them as far as I could throw them.

That guitar has been there since the mid-late '80's as far as I can remember. It was originally priced at $800, then $2,500 and now $4,800.

The condition of the guitar generally is very good, but I would not say it was mint. I also wonder what nearly 20 years of hanging by its headstock might have done to its truss-rod/neck relief adjustability.

Cheers,

Mark

Cameron,

For your reference here is a thread about the guitar at James Music I started in about 2001. It seems my description back then as to its condition is more reliable than my memory is today.

Just out of interest. I know I'm a POM living in Oz but could we organise an Aussie ICW get together like our USA friends do?

What say you guys?

Munch, just goes to show when a eager beaver rep gets a woody over something he hasn't seen before and calls the Captain to tell him what it is...bit like Stevie Wonder window shopping in this situation.

Six, good call I will start that idea of in my collum
