As with a lot of stuff from Olivia's it's real nice but it sure is pricey... |

Here's the Artwood Twin that Olivia's brought to the show. Besides some wear, the 6 string bridge pup is not original and for some reason the tailpiece on that side was a replacement (it is much brighter than the 12 string tailpiece).

Looks like Olivia's ended the auction early with zero bids.. Realizing that there are only 12 of these babies floating around... does anyone know what the fair market value is? |

Somon needs to put the rest the myth of only 12 of these made. Or has it been done already here on ICW? |

Sorry, I'm just quoting a source of a source (if you will). According to Michael Wright's, Guitar Stories, Vol. 1, there were only supposed to be 12 made. http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/GuitarTours/ArtwoodTwin1/ArtwoodTwin1.html - Second paragraph. -Brent |

The myth has certainly been put to rest here. In fact, I think I remember seeing the build numbers for these in some other thread. Brent, to answer your question, the price Olivia's had that listed for was a bit on high side considering its condition. I can tell you that I got mine for quite a bit less than their OPENING bid price and mine is in exceptional condition. js |

Hi Guys I thought I should introduce myself, I'm the buyer of Olivia's Artwood Twin, in the thread above. Before we get into a big debate on the price I paid, I'm sure its by no means the most expensive Artwood ever to change hands (plus I benefitted a LOT from the UK exchange rate)! In fact I have to say a big thanks to Joseph at Olivia's, not only did he personally call me after I bought the guitar but he did a fantastic job of shipping it from the US to the UK. This has been a 20-year love affair for me, I saw my first Artwood Twin in a guitar shop window when I was 15 and I swore I would one day own one. Believe me I thought long and hard before I pushed the button but having looked for so long I knew I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. By the way to correct the comment about the auction ending early, it ran its full course and I was the first and only bidder!! During the couple of weeks I waited for it to arrive I had a lot of cold feet moments but opening that case (the original one) and seeing it for the first time in the flesh was just a great moment. I just can't help smiling every time I see it. And the greatest thing is... I thought it would be more of a collectors piece than a player but how wrong I was! I tuned up this 26 year old beast on arrival and it is still in tune! The necks are amazing, it is incredibly playable with fantastic tone. It is about to be refitted with an "old-new" (i.e. never used) Super-80 flying finger, and the worn gold hardware will be replated. I think actually both tailpieces are original but the 12-string tailpiece has worn more because the players' hand naturally rests on it. Well, mine does! When that is all done it will be in totally immaculate condition, as the body itself is in amazing condition for the age, not even a bit of buckle rash on the back. I will post some pics when the restoration is complete. So, I will sign off for now, and say I'm very pleased to be joining ICW as an Artwood Twin owner! |

Its a great alternative to working out at the gym, Freak. She's such a joy to play you don't really notice the pain! The 12 string neck is so well put together you can actually play it like a 6 string, even finger pick it, which I've never been able to do on a 12 string before. I also have an Ovation 6/12 doubleneck electroacoustic, sexy looking beast but not a patch on the Artwood to play. Alot lighter tho'. I bought her and another Ovation from the current lead guitarist in the Animals who lives not far from me (post- Eric Burdon era). Will post a piccy of my full collection if anyone's interested - only 1 Ibanez in there tho. Actually I could use some techy advice on the Artwood. Mine has a non-original bridge pup on the 6 string neck. I understood from the discussion board that she had Super80's as standard so I managed to acquire a brand new one. The wiring doesn't look right though, just a single wire, I was expecting something for the phase switching. Any advice, before I open her up?? |

Phil: I was surprised to find out that Ibanez made Super 80 pickups in three variaties. One was called the "Single" which was a single coil pickup inside the super 80 chasis so that it would fit into a humbucker size cutout (sounds strange to me, too). The other two variaties where made for the Tri-sound switch and without. The difference seems to be in the amount of leads. Sounds like you might have picked up the non-Tri-sound variety. I have the catalog page at work. I can post it if you're curious. |

thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated. Shame about the pickup, it is minty mint condition. Then again, maybe I just need a suitable vintage Ibanez to fit it into... I will drop you a mail about the pup Siv, any chance of a photo? ps I meant open up my Arty, not the pup!! |
