I know of someone who will sell this AR2000 for 900. No case. If you're interested, I'll hook you up. mk |

Mike, As i'm sure you'll agree, price is not everything....what year is this AR-2000? Why is he selling it? How much buckle-rash is on the back? What mods have been done if any? Why no case? ..and those questions are just for starters! |

You'll have to ask the seller directly. I don't know the seller or any details about this guitar other than it was listed at $1,200, I asked if they would take $800 and they came back at $900. I'm passing because I already own too many guitars. I'm giving ICW members the opportunity to follow-up, if interested. Obviously, you must do your homework! mk |

Unless it has hidden 'issues' $900 is a fantastic price on a high quality, collectable instrument! Why would the production year be relevant? They only made AR2000's from 1998 to 2002 and all were high end, flamey, MIJ Prestige models. Great guitars with only one minor flaw...being a tad neck-heavy due to the lightweignt body. As stated, potential buyers should do their due dilegence in advance. |

Why are the new AR2000 & AR3000 so good? How do they compare vs. older Artists? How do they compare vs. the newer AR-300? mk |

Hmmmm, ......if I didn't know better, I would think that you are taking an exception to my simple questions Tim. I quess what's important to one may not be that important to another, isn't that right Tim? |

Mark, Since you are new around here most decent people would want to bring you "up to speed" gently. We have a practice between "brothers" around here of sharing on good deals we come across in our travels. Obiviously if MicahelK had a need for the instrument he'd only tell us about it AFTER he'd gotten the deal closed. Both Tim and Michael are quite established players and collectors. Tim is an awesome guitar player I've had the chance to entertain at Casa Big... You should look around and figure out who the players are on a site and establish youself in a humble and modest fashion until people get to know YOU better, lest your posts seem inflammatory and insulting. |

Back to guitar talk....I'll ask my previous question in another way: how do you think the AR2000 & AR3000 compare vs. a 2618/2619 or AR100/AR300 in terms of playability & tone? I did play an AR2000 and if I remember correctly, it was significantly lighter than the 'vintage' Artists. Does the Prestige neck warrant the price? Which would you purchase and why: a 2618 for $650, an AR100 for $550 or an AR2000 for $900, assuming all are in excellent condition? mk |

"Hmmmm, ......if I didn't know better, I would think that you are taking an exception to my simple questions Tim. I quess what's important to one may not be that important to another, isn't that right Tim?" Markownly, you do not know me, and as a new forum contributor, I can possibly understand your taking exception to my comments and questions about the AR2000 for sale. Maybe the coincidence of my thread about changing pickups in my AR further fuled your suspicions about my credibility. Whatever your motivation for such a hostile post however, is not my concern. I do stand by my comments about the $900 asking price. No, I am NOT the seller. Yes, whoever is seriously interested in purchasing it should contact the seller and ask the very questions you and I stated in our respective posts. By the way, if I did not already own and cherish an AR2000 and AR3000, I would definitely be in touch with the seller to get a full description and more photos in advance of any negotiations. Markownly, my comment about the production date should speak for itself, but since you seem to mis-understand fairly innocent and valid inquiries, I will explain again. The AR2000 was a limited run by Ibanez from 1998 to 2002. The original list price was approximately $1,999. Street prices new ranged between $1,200 to $1,500, usually sans case. Ebay sales of AR2000's have usually hovered at or under $1,000 for nice examples. Finally, I have no plans on selling my AR2000, so rest assured the one offered is not mine. However, if my hands some day become so twisted and arthritic that I could not play, then the first place I would offer it for sale would be here on the very friendly ICW forum...to my fellow Ibanez fanatics. No games or hidden seller tricks necessary. Heck, I'd even consider selling it to you including the hardshell case...for $2,500US. Have a nice day, Markownly. Tim |

Mike, you are correct in that the AR2000 is a bit lighter weight than the AR3000. Basically Ibanez listened to players/consumers who liked the AR2000 Prestige Reissue, but wanted a chunkier sound and more balanced weight distribution. It appears that they met that challenge by adding more girth to the mahogany body. When playing in a standing position, the AR3000 is not as prone to neck-diving as is the 2000. Cosmetically, the AR3000 has a more flamey maple cap and a reissue tailpiece decoration to commemorate the original AR's. Otherwise, they look like sisters. Since I do not own a vintage 2618 or 2619 or one of the new Korean AR's, I cannot comment on their similarities from personal experience. Sonically the AR2000 and 3000 are similar, but the 3000 has the stronger voice of the two. They both have Super 58 pickups with rosewood surrounds, 3pc. maple 'Prestige' necks with the "three additional steps of finishing..." as lauded by Ibanez. The necks are similar in carve, but the 3000 has pearl/abalone/pearl inlays and a slightly thicker 'C' shape, again, my preference over the 2000. Both are great guitars! MK, I hope this helps. Tim |
