Here is another pair of Series 1 volume/tone knobs. http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7406155346 The price is still fairly reasonable (compared to the $115 that the last pair went for), so if you need a pair this might be a good opportunity. And, yes, they are mine - I don't need them right now (I'm sure as soon as I sell them I'll obtain a guitar that does need them), and I'm trying to save up for my next guitar, so some sacrifices must be made. I'd love to see what guitar they end up on... |

I'm not trying to divert attention here, in fact I'll probably put in a bid myself.....but: Together with those white rubber toggle rings, those Sure Grip I's are one of Ibanez's less successful design/materials ideas. Another dodo is the binding around the floating pickguards on semi's, but a judicious lick of cyanoacrylate (superglue) should take care of that, if you have the guts to do it. The rubber rings dry out and crack almost from new and the knurled black rubber "belts" on the knobs stretch, probably in reaction to sweat. If the guitar in question is your working axe, sooner or later it will suffer this fate. My suggestion, sorry purists, is to use Sure Grip II's, which address the fault and look as close to the part as any knob can, for day-to-day playing, and keep a proper set of SG I's for when the guitar retires or goes to market. And buy the SG I's now from B5erik 'cos you probably won't find them cheaper in a hurry, if ever. |

My experience with Sure Grip I's is quite different. Of the dozens of Ibanezs with SG1's I've handled, a total of two knobs had stretched rubber rings which I believe were caused by coming in contact of certain solvent or chemical agents. The control afforded by the increased friction from these rubber rings is a great feature of these guitars. The SG2's continued to provide the same benefit but its design makes it much easier to loose the rubber rings, like falling off when you are doing a violin effect on a dark stage, never to be found again. I have to agree with ace. Although, I have seen both types with their rubbers missing Steve |

Hey Ace & Steve, point taken. I just think that if those rubber rings are prone to coming off, it's best to avoid using them regularly. Most of the late 70's and early 80's Ibanezes I've seen have had the SG I's intact with rubber rings resolutely fixed. But you only need to see a stretched and loose one to know that it will do nothing to facilitate your playing. While there's a suspicion that regular use or sweat will stretch the rubber, I'd prefer not to use them regularly, but to keep them in reserve. I didn't know that the SGII's are also prone to losing the rubber tops. I presume that this is a question of the tops popping off, rather than getting loose where they should help your grip, right? |

The listing ends today, so if you need a knob or two this is a good opportunity (the price is still fairly reasonable, all things considered). |

Well, here's some good news for you - the price is still very reasonable compared with what vintage parts (including knobs) have been going for lately - and there are 25 minutes left so it looks like somebody is going to get a good deal on these. http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7406155346 |

I agree with Ace. I bought my Artist new as a schoolboy in 1890. It has sure gip 1's. 26 years later - still in perfect shape. |
