Off course Acetan, My apologies. What I meant is don't sell it to the same people who place Ibanez scams on ebay and use paypall if you sell to people you can never reach in person. That goes for all people in other continents, Americans and Australians included. And if you were American or Australian it would go for Europeans like myself. They can always say they didn't receive the guitar and get the money back. That's what I read a few days ago. I always pick up guitars myself. I'd rather drive a few hundred kilometres than ending up with a case full of old newspapers and bricks. See it, feel it! The safest way to buy! The scammers of the last weeks proof that old-fashioned ebaying is not safe anymore! And it's a shame that they come from China. I think you mustn't expect too much vintage Ibanez guitars there. They didn't buy capitalist instruments under MAO. But selling is a good possibility if you're sure you get your money. Greetz, Ginger Ale |

What's got guitar production in 2006 to do with people who sell vintage 70s guitars they don't possess? Or with people who get their money back through the Paypall system because they "didn't receive the guitar"? I'm telling you to be careful, when you do ANY international or even intercontinental transactions. This has NOTHING to do with whether the trading partner is Chinese, a Swede or a Russian, it has to do with how far they are away, and with what law protects you, when they are not that honest. My relations with Chinese people in Holland go a bit further and deeper than buying the products of underpaid good craftsmen. (I eat in their kitchen instead of in the restaurant). Although I advised to buy a Blueridge acoustic guitar instead of a vintage Ibanez on an Ibanez Acoustics thread. You don't have to explain today's quality of Chinese guitarmaking to me. Question is, how many guitar factories in the USA, Europe, Japan and Korea will survive if this continues? I read Fuji Gen Gakki already stopped producing guitars. The multinationals are using the Chinese and Indian people for cheap labour and leave the old craftsmen who built up their companies on the dole! And oil consumption in these cheap labour countries is going up like a rocket, and in the mean time these multinationals are still producing more cars with conventional combustion engines! I see so little real innovation... they're just copying our industrial revolution on another location... The examples of people of these countries who belong to the NEW ECONOMY we saw on ICW (I'm referring to Chinese scammers on Ebay) won't bring the innovation we're looking for. They're going for only one thing: fast money! Wrong philosophy! A misuse of their intelligence and of our collector's greed! Can't say it enough! Careful out there! |

With the number of scams on Ebay at the moment, pretty soon they won't have any loyal customers left. Jimmys Username: Jimmys Registered: 05-2003 Posted on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 - 09:45 am: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wrote to eBay about it a while back and they said that there wasn't much they could do as essentially they are just providing the vehicle for the public to buy and sell things. Pretty poor response. The seller of the Weir has 0 feedback so that should send the alarm bells off a bit. The seller of the auction that I wrote to eBay about had really dodgy feedback (all symbols, no meaningful text) and all within the last week of the auction or so. It was for a Gibson Les Paul in China, of course. I am sure that they could tighten the processes to reduce these bogus listings if they really wanted to, but it would cost in terms of development effort to automate things. Problem is that all this gear is showing up on Ebay as a local item until you read the ad, which says the item will be despatched from Hong Kong. When there are sereval hundred ads like this, How do you avoid them? I think Ebay really needs to clean up its act rather than just collecting revenue. To add to this, there's the problem of bogus 2nd chance offers just about everyones had by now. People who manage Ebay should be getting worried. Tigerstripe Username: Tigerstripe Registered: 05-2006 Posted on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 09:48 pm: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yes -its happening with all brands of guitars... I tried to contact somebody who won/paid 400.00 for a fake autograph but ebay doesnt allow you to contact other bidders once the auction is over...The scammers are also now hijacking usa accounts and bidding at the last second and tehn ask you to send item to their daughter in AFRICA etc.Happens with craigslist also.Basically you have to deal with no 3rd world country people. Ebay is getting overrun by these people. It could drive away alot of business.I know about 98% or more of the autographs on ebay are fake and bringing in big bucks...It sucks. Markl Username: Markl Registered: 05-2005 Posted on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 07:30 am: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tigerstripe...You are right....I sold my daughters old mobile phone a month or 2 back for £25.00...the winning bidder had no feedback & had joined e-bay the day before the auction ended..!!!!....so I was pretty sure I'd wasted my time on that....the following day I got an e-mail from the 'winner'...obviously african....asking me to send the phone straight away to their uncle in Nigeria as it was a present, and that they were so pleased with winning such a great item that they would send me £250.00!!!!!!!! Naturally I sent the phone straight away & received my £250.00 the next day.......Not! I actually relisted it & sold it for more the second time around!.. There are thousands of people who seem to fall for these scams, & I really can't understand how they could be so gullible.... On e-bay now when selling I stipulate no bidders without feedback & sell to my home country(UK) only...It restricts you admittedly, but does stop a lot of time wasters & scammers...I really don't know the answer, but a little bit of common sense goes a long long way! Snowjays...where are you based...on the UK site, the line on the main page on your ebay search usually says 'From China'.... so you can weed them out before bothering to look too closely.... It is such a shame that there is this problem, which can spoil the fun of buying & selling on e-bay...but follow a few rules & I think it can be pretty safe.... If anyone is interested I have an AR300 that I bought from new in 1978..I would like to post a few pics for you all to see & tell me what you think...It is in pretty good condition, but has a couple of marks, that maybe someone can advise me the best way to get it back to it's best!... It is a great guitar, weighs a ton & I would never sell it, but thought I might share with you all..... Like I said 'a lot of text', because I tried to be short for once, because a lot I wrote this weekend had disappeared due to the problem at the ICW host. Short remarks about "the Chinese" are always over-simplified. "The Chinese" don't exist. But you know from your own experience who I mean, and who I don't. Do you have a good alternative for Ebay? National ad sites and the ICW Free Classifieds I guess... People you trust... Ebay as far as I know has the most availabe ibanez stuff! Maybe "instrument exchange" once in a while has some! You know I really used to enjoy searching for guitars until those thieveing bastards started. I think out of 745 items found under Ibanez last night there were at least 175 fake auctions. Some of them did'nt have Ibanez anywhere in the discription but still came up in the search. Go figure! |
