Well, I finally decided to sell her..
I'm going to let everyone here, and on ebay decide how much she's worth! $1.00 starting bid, and NO RESERVE!! But you better bid quick, since it's only a 3 day auction!

Hopefully someone here will pick her up, so I'll know she'll be in good hands!

Which of the current Ibanez models does this correspond to (nearly)? To none of them, why?

No, I didn't notice it
I read it 'Artstar'.

I am new here and was asking if it is comparable with e.g. any Artcore model (AS93?).
I am too lazy to search info on the net

Compare with an Artcore? Why? It is what it is!
The sound is fantastic (Super 58's).

It's a 1025 euro guitar (going price 2002 with case incl. old German VAT).

So I don't understand why you didn't set a RESERVE!

On the Marktplaats in Holland they go for about 500-600 euros.
And I am talking EUROS.

I'd do something about this, because you could loose it too cheap!

well, I can just hope I've advertised it well enough, and I guess she'll sell for the going market value, maybe a little more if I get more bidders in on it from the beginning with the $1 starting bid. That's my plan anyway, I guess we'll find out one way or the other!

Partsman: Your description is pretty accurate. It's a 1999 AS120TR made in the Cort factory in Korea.

Juha: It's got a lot in common with the AS93. Some would say that the AS120 being Korean made with Super 58 pickups is a better made guitar than the current Chinese made AS93. I think there's some truth to that opinion. However, I wouldn't say the same for a AS120 vs. AS103 comparison.

Thanks,

Ginger: That is what I asked, is it comparable or not and why. It is easier to find specs and prices for new guitars that are for sale today. I don't have archives (specs, price lists) of older models. I ask ICW members to get better understanding of their value as instruments and collector's items.

Johns: Did you mean AS120 is appr. equal to AS103? As far as it is useful to compare different models from different builders and times (anyway both are 335 copies).

Partsman: Sorry, this goes out of your topic (partly?).

Juha:

No, I meant that I feel the new AS103 is a VERY nicely made semi-acoustic (even though it's made in China) that is much more comparable to the best MIK semi-hollows.

However, comparing a 20 year old AS to a brand new AS103 is like comparing two different types of varities of apples. It comes down to a matter of taste.

The AS103 offers many cosmetic differences to the traditional looking AS120. If that's what you like, there's no reason not to buy one. It's a beautiful guitar with hardware and appointments that you'll not find on any vintage AS. I feel it would be a great mistake to dismiss it as just a "cheap Chinese guitar".

I have an AS103SM-NT. See AS103NT topic in hollowbodies section. It is good enough guitar for me but I am considering purchasing one or two more (semi) hollowbodies. See "GB10 in sight" in hollowbodies section. Even AS103NT could be my next purchase, I like its more elegant, blond looks compared to AS103SM.
Or AF105NT or AF125NT or vintage/older models or ...

What I meant to say, is that it's no use comparing a guitar with Alnico Super 58's with a guitar with ACH1 and ACH 2 or a guitar with ceramic Super 58 Customs.

The AS120 is better than the Artcores with ACH1 and ACH2 pickups.

And the AS120 has a DIFFERENT character than the AS103NT.
So in fact you should buy them both. Just like it's nice to have a Yamaha SG400 next to your Gibson or Epiphone SG/Les Paul or an Ibanez Artist AR with Super 58's. Ceramic pickups can add something to your spectrum if you have had only ALNICO pickups and vice versa.

But you must decide what kind of sound you want.
If you like them both, and you have a good opportunity to buy a (near) mint AS120, I wouldn't wait.
The new AS103NT's will wait brand new in the shops and on the web.

Juha,
It doesn't bother me at all, that what this site is for, discussing, learning, and sharing knowledge about Ibanez guitars. I wouldn't have discovered that Ibanez made alot of the guitars that I now own, or the ones that I am on a quest to own if not for ICW.

Mark,

Ibanez didn't make any of your guitars! They ordered them and sold them.

I think your AS120 is going way too cheap. $500-600 would have been a good reserve. This was a $1000.- guitar!
