I just purchased a brand new Ibanez GA6CE classical electric guitar. The label inside says Savador Ibanez (made in China). I bought it from a reputable dealer, but am unsure if I got an expensive guitar, or a cheaper (inferior) China model. Is anyone familiar with this particular model, or can anyone offer any insight. Is the China model the same as the American model. HELP.

I recently bought a "Salvador Ibanez GA6CE" model, used, from a reputable Midwest music shop, examined it closely, and had to return it. The design was pretty much identical to the regular Ibanez line's GA6SCE model (note the "S," presumably for "solid top?") -- and though it played well, had good back/body/sides fit, and had a lot of features for $245 plus shipping (single cutaway, adjustable truss rod, on-board preamp/EQ), the workmanship was really sketchy: Fretwire filings sticking in the fingerboard; a faded discoloration of the rosewood fingerboard that suggested damage to the original wood, and a "rosewood" bridge that looked suspciously like molded plastic (with a cheesy plastic "inlay" held on by the looped strings). It wasn't up to snuff for an Ibanez product, and I have to wonder if it actually was one. The instrument's label says "Salvador Ibanez / La Cualidad de la Guitarra Clasica" -- they just forgot to add "Aproximadamente" -- does say "Made in China." I expect it's either a budget-level version of the real thing, or else Ibanez is being knocked off (Ibanez makes no mention of a "Salvador" line anywhere on its Website). If you keep the Salvador critter, you'll have a pretty good traveling guitar if you didn't pay more than about $250 and don't mind finishing it up yourself; I wouldn't count on resale value, though. The genuine Ibanez article (GA6CE or GA6SCE) can be found online used for around $475, and is likelier to be worth it. If it says "Salvador," caveat emptor. |

I too, just bought a Salvador Ibanez model, made in China. Does anyone have any information as to whether this is a genuine Ibanez or a copy. I paid around $250 for it. The Ibanez web site does not appear to have any contact details, so I have been unable to ask them directly. |

The Ibanez model came in a jumpstart pack for a while.
I believe there are also GA4 and 5 models as well
