I recently picked up this guitar in good condition at a yard sale for $100.00 with a solid case. The gutiar is pretty solid with a herring bone pattern around the body, ivory? crosses on the fretts with a plate at the top of the neck. it is has a dark finish, with some minor repair. Does anyone have any idea on the value?

I have a 1974 Ibanez "Vintage", model# 952SB. It is the ONLY guitar I have ever seen (any make) that has a rounded/beveled back (all wood). I have taken it to dealers, and no one has ever seen anything like it. I bought it new in 1974 at the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY for about $200.00. It sounds better every year and I wouldn't part with it for anything (or anything under a small to medium size fortune). Can Anyone tell me what I have, what it's worth, etc.?

Jason K, you are the only one I have heard describe this guitar (S300 Vintage). I have one and a buddy of mine has one. Purchased in '78 for around $280. We like 'em a lot. He uses it in a band, playing rhythm. Seems to be a solid spruce top which may have darkened over the yrs. It was made in Japan. The serial# starts with a 78. It is styled like it has a 2 pc back but it looks to be one pc if ya look inside. It has a headstock that fans out in slight curves, and the top pattern-cut is similar to a Guild. It's not like any other Ib' I've seen. Has great action. Low end not real deep but adequate. Medium to high end is real nice. Unamplified, sounds great at low to medium volume. Value is probably minimal. I put new tuners on it and a Fishman pickup. It "works". I'd never part with it.

Blue son and Jason K.
I have an S300SV Vintage also
Mine looks like the sides and back have a dark mahogany look to them. the fret markers are cross pattern with tips on the crosses like diamond pattern. Bought in around 1977. neck block serial is 780908. The pick striker plate looks like a black/brown marble pattern. It looks like a one piece back with a zigzag inlay down the middle of the back. I have an inquiry on another page at this same site. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks Stan -Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Oh my, STAN! I too have a Vintage S300SV, serial 781204. probably looks identical to yours- single zigzag inlay in middle of back, same pickguard plate, looks to be mother-of-pearl fret marker inlays in a diamond shape. white outline along body on both front and back edges, with front face a lighter wood than the very dark back and sides. natural finish. Guild-looking flanges on headstock. mine was given to me by a man who bought it new in the 70s in NJ (i think). great sound. had several offers on it ranging from $300 to $1200. was told not to part with it, given that it's aged so well in beauty and sound. any more info appreciated.
