Hello people,Im the new kid on the block! Heres my story. Ive owned a LS-550 for about 20 Yrs. it took a nosedive, cant be fixed, so Im shopping for a guitar!! My LS had maple back and sides so Im thinking about a M300 series. Im a little nervous about buying a guitar I cant play first! Theres one on ebay now, but I can see the truss rod thru the soundhole, have you ever seen that B4? And,Why do the guitars made in Japan seem better than the ones made in Korea? Thanks |

Callawag, I just bought an M310 myself which is supposed to arrive tomorrow. The one on eBay right now looks to be in good shape. All I can tell you is my 1981 Artwood is a helluva guitar. I'm hoping the M310 is just as robust! |

Good eyes, man! I didn't notice that when I looked at the pix first, and clearly I didn't read your post completely. So it looks like the truss is practically off the guitar! Yeah, I'd say that's a red flag. I'm going to take a wild guess that this guitar might be dried out... Mahogany will do that. I don't know if the climate in Truckee is as dry as other places in Cali., but if he didn't keep the guitar humidified, that could explain neck adjustment problems. So, that said, if nothing's broken or cracked, a few dampits, a hard-shell case, and a couple of weeks might bring this thing back to life. Anyway, I'd be nervous about this one, Callawag. You should probably contact the seller for more details, but he seemed to profess that he was no expert (so I wouldn't expect much). I should mention that maple Concords and these M-series acoustics come up frequently on eBay. I've lost several auctions to snipers on eBay, though, so I just wish you luck on buying what you want. I'll let you know how things work out for me when mine arrives tomorrow. |

Oh, and the other question... The MIJ Ibanezs are treasured because, well, Hoshino is a Japanese company and the craftsmen that build Ibanez guitars in the '70s and '80s throughout Japan were top-notch. These guitars were relatively inexpensive in their day, and even today they remain under-valued (in my opinion). I don't think that means that more modern-day axes made in Korea or China are in any way deficient, Callawag... it's just that the MIJ models are getting old and acquiring collectibility that they didn't have when new. |
