If I had to choose between the Martin 00-28K and this baby, I would go for the Guild, but I have VERY little experience with the slide that old Martin was originally meant for (bought a metal one and a glass one, tried them and put them in the drawer). I wouldn't be surprised, when the reserve is twice the amount the first bidder is willing to pay. So I think $2.000 or more. For $1,000.- you can't expect to win this one. A D-4HG was more expensive than that. Ginger |

That should be Martin O-28K of course. Ginger |

Hi Ginger, Jchester had mentioned that the F-50 was his favorite guitar; I thought he'd enjoy seeing this one. It looks like the spruce top is well-worn from lots of use. The back and sides of this jumbo are true works of art in figured maple. Maple sure holds up well over the long haul! Interestingly, the specs say it's a laminated back... I wonder if that's correct. I thought F-50s were all solid. Maybe Guild did the same thing that IBZ did with my M-310 -- namely laminating maple on top of a base of maple strips. Dunno. Undoubtedly, the snipers are waiting in the wings on this one until Sunday. I agree with you; this will go over 2 grand by the end -- and well worth it, I'd think. |

Huh, a laminated back on the F-50. My cheaper D-4HG (about 2400 guilders) has a solid arched mahogany back! It's hard to believe these F-50 specs are correct. Ginger |

y'know what? A laminate back is the current spec. for a *modern* Guild F-50 Vintage. I'll lay odds that one from the '70s though wasn't a laminate. Anyway, it hardly matters; just interested. This seller has a short video of the guitar which is a nice touch. |

Sorry... I've been away for a while. Thanks for the "way-back" & thinkin' of me, Chaz! Yeah... that's my old 'dream girl' alright. I can almost still hear/feel the vibes. $1,400.00 is a GREAT deal... I hope she got a good home. |

Nice to see you, J. Thought maybe we'd lost ya'. I agree, it was a great deal for the buyer, although I don't know if that guitar can take much more "love." Hey, I might have a new maple acquisition coming soon... NOt an F-50, but possibly better. I'll keep you posted (enigmatic enough for you guys??) --chaz |

Chazmo: Did you just miss on a Fender-shaped headstock Ibanez acoustic? |

Yes. I did, John. I don't play the sniper game, so I lost the auction. At least I set the price reasonably so the seller got reasonable money. The good news is that I have something else in the works (unfortunately, not an Ibanez)... |

Better than an F-50??? This I gotta see! btw, Chaz... it's not your responsibility, or anyone else's, to "set the price reasonably so the seller got reasonable money". That's called SHILL BIDDING! |

Can't wait to show you guys! I should have it by next week. Here's a sneak peek (can you guess what it is)?: J, I've been around the block a few times, and I'd be happy to talk with you about my feelings about eBay "auctions" (maybe I'll start a Miscellaneous thread). I can only tell you that I bid on the Fender-headstock acoustic to to own it, not to be a shill for this sale. That said, I was almost certain that a sniper would grab it (which of course is what happened). I did *not* bid on behalf of the seller, J! |

A jumbo with a 3-piece back & sick flamage. I have no idea but can't wait to find out! She sure looks good from that angle. Sorry Chaz... 'shill' was a poor choice of words. It was late & I was annoyed over some other ebay issues. My sincere apologies. |

It's a 1984 Taylor 655 (yup, that's a 12-string jumbo, J!) Haven't received it yet, but I'll clean 'er up and put on a photo shoot when I do. She's got wooden pegs and all the character of those early Taylors. Can't wait! J, thanks for the consideration on the shill thingy. Everyone has a different perspective on that. |

Thanks for understanding, Chaz... I know it hadda hurt... especially after putting up that F-50, especially for me. It's been bothering me for days. I am truely sorry for treating a 'bud' like that. But, then, you acted as a real 'bud' and understood. Thanx, man... I hope we're OK. Anyway... I can't wait to see more of your GORGEOUS 655! If the BACK looks that good, the whole picture HAS to be a knockout! We must hear your first sonic impressions! I wish I could hear her in person... or see your face after that first nice, strong open G chord. Then try Pink Floyd's "Wish you Were Here" (WAY too much fun, on a fat, full 12) She'll be a handfull, but I'm sure your whole neighborhood will love her! (i.e. Loud & Full) John |

Chaz... How good is the tab for Wish you were here? Can you post the link if it is a good one. (For those of us who don't read music anyway!) |

Based on suggestions from other ICW folks, I've found great stuff on www.chordie.com For songs like "Wish you were here," there are literally dozens of tablature on there, and you have to sift through them. Sometimes, one of the listings is just for one of the parts (like bass or solo guitar or whatever)... I haven't really figured out their system. I never even saw tablature before this year. Having a good ear to understand the strumming, and having the tablature to figure out how the notes are being played really helps. Sometimes the tablature suggests fingering, which can really help too, particularly in a finger-picked piece. E.g., learning John Mayer's "Why Georgia, Why?" from tablature really opened my eyes. Have fun! |

Jchester... Yowsa, here's one to satisfy your GAS: http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthre ad.php?t=111630 By the way, I recently picked up a new F512 12-string (the 12-string brother of the F50R). Oh man, what a beauty! I owe you guys a family picture soon. |
