hi everyone. I just joined the site because after many years of owning American made guitars I've finally given up on finding one that sounds as good as my 81 V320. Does anyone else own one and if so what are your opinions?? |

Most of the early '80s Ibanez acoustics are real gems! Glad you're enjoying your V320! |

I wanted to ask you another question about my V320. My serial number on the label inside the sound hole is 81060986H but on the wooden block that reinforces the neck on the inside of the guitar there is a different number that reads 810506. I understand the the relationship of the serial number and the date the guitar was made but do you have any clues as to why these numbers are different?? |

Hey, this is great. Do you mind if I add this to our serial number thread? (see the end of this: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/11 /1801.html?1196210643) Teestodd, I think that the necks of these guitars were built and stocked independently of the guitar bodies. The branding on the neck seems to be a sequential neck numbering. The guitar's serial number probably encodes the date of manufacture of the body of the guitar, but honestly that encoding is not perfectly clear. We've seen a couple of examples of a neck brand that indicates the year earlier than the serial number. And there's some evidence that these guitars were built at the beginning of the year indicated in the serial number. |

Thanks again Chazmo, you've been a great help. You'll be hearing from me again as I've decided to buy up all the early model Ibanez acoustics I can. It would be nice to know some of the more collectable models. |

Hey, you're most welcome, Teestodd! Listen, I have a few sources of catalog informatioon that I've found over the years and been pointed to by other members. These are what I use most: For the most complete catalog selection (at least from mid-70s on), I've downloaded most of these. This site is in German, but it's easy to navigate: http://db.musik-meinl.de/index.php?direct_mainmenu =/service/katalogarchiv This site has great information (this is the acoustics page): http://www.noahjames.com/vintagepage/acoustic.html Wolfgang in Germany is a fountain of information on the early Artwood series. His site is: http://www.kreativ-lab.de/artwood/ And this site (another ICW member) covers a lot of the sixties products: http://www.sixties-ibanez.com/ Best wishes! |
