I've been meaning to ask what you all think of these adjustable acoustic bridges. I always thought that they hampered the transmission of vibrations to the top, thru the saddle. Sound reasonable or just one of those "old luthier's tales". |

John, I have a 1972/73 Yamaha FG300 acoustic. It has a fully adjustable bridge for height and intonation, there are individual saddles for each string. The saddles look like bone to me. The saddles sit inside a u-shaped channel. The channel is adjustable for height. Below is a link to the best picture I've seen of an FG300. Sound-wise, it's very mellow and quite loud, so I don't think the bridge has any deleterious effect on the sound. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33033&item=7319639896&rd= 1 |

Incidentally, those are not the original tuners on the FG300 shown in that link, and there is no upper guitar strap button on mine. |

The sides and back are not rosewood as the seller claims! |

I have a Hummingbird copy manufatured by Pearl that appears identical to the Ibanez model. I removed the adjustable bridge for a recording session so that a piezo pick-up could be used under a standard bone bridge. I didn't notice any difference in tone. The original adjustable bridge is back in place and does allow the action to be optimised for different playing styles and string guages. I would leave it be. |
