I just bought a neat old Ibanez labeled model #305, serial #2047, for $20 at a yard sale. It's got a nice tight grain spruce top, and mahogany sides, back & neck. Black binding top & bottom. Open headstock & gang tuners, peghead marked "Ibanez" & "steel reinforced neck"...no truss rod. Has steel strings & the neck is straight, I assume it's supposed to be strung with the steel strings? Large dot position markers. The bridge is pretty trashed, so I'm going to put a new one on it...but it still plays nice & has a good action, and a lively tone. It isn't fancy, or expensive looking, but it's well made & the materials are good. 3 piece neck. The label is old looking, I'm wondering if this guitar is as old as it looks...like 1960's? The serial # gives me no clue like on newer Ibanez's. I haven't found anything out in preliminary searching, so I thought I would ask here? Anyone seen a model like this & know anything about it? Vintage etc. Thanks..

"steel reinforced neck" and no truss rod?
What's in it then?

Ginger,

It can be just what it says: a solid steel bar or a rod that's not adjustable. Just to increase the strength of the neck. I've seen that several times on old guitars.

By the way: the Argus list is (like you said) sometimes far beside the real value of collectables. The Artwood strats are listed for 620 (dragon and botanical) to 800 (for the eagle version). I won't sell my botanical for even double that price!

Kind greetz,
Harry

Oh yeah Harry,

When the ICW server went down a few weeks ago, I had just sent some info on your botanical.
The cones on it are Sequoia cones not acorns!
We have a redwood Sequoia in the castle park in our town, the people use the cones as Christmas ornaments.

Rest of the info is lost, and I don't remember what I wrote that day. (Some pages I didn't save, that's for sure).

Greetz,

Ginger
