I have an Artwood AW90 I bought second hand in about 1980-2. It is solid spruce top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, rosewood sides and 3-piece rosewood back. The seriel number is 90507269 it says it was made in Owari Asahri Japan

I have never seen mention of an AW90 and the seriel number doesn't tally with the date.

Anyone have any information?

Peter:

Michael Wright's Guitar Stories, Vol. 1 shows a picture of a '79 acoustic catalog that lists the following: AW20, AW25, AW30, AW40, AW60, AW70, AW75, AW90, AW95 and AW100. The models ending in 5 are 12 strings. From what little I can see, you have all the specs down.

I guess the first 9 in the serial number stands for '79.

Thanks very much. I wonder why they've never included a AW90 model in any subsequent catalog.

Does it mention the list price? i paid £330 for it but I have to say it has a brilliant sound.

whoever had it before me changed the machine heads for schallers.

where can I get this book?

thanks again

Peter:

I have no prices, sorry. But I bet those early Artwoods (Japanese made as opposed to the Korean made, today) are great sounding instruments.

How to get Michael Wright's book? You'll have to ask him, I'm not sure if it's in print anymore. Last I knew his email was: MWright750@aol.com

Wolle_schmidt:

That's a pretty cool website! Is it your's?

I've never seen the Artwood LTD japanese catalog before. That AW200 is spectacular! Only thing is the link for the larger image is not correct. Currently it's set to display: 1979_ja_lt_2_03.jpg but that's the same as the page that shows the AW160, AW120 and AW100 (all of which I'd LOVE to have!). The correct link should be: 1979_limited/1979_ja_lt_2_02.jpg.

Yes, that's great catalog info, Wolle! Thanks for the pointers. These must be exceedingly rare guitars. I've never seen any of the AW-90+ models in person -- although when I was actually shopping in 1981 (when I bought my AW-75), I was only looking at 12-strings. I wonder what the production numbers on Artwoods was back then.

John is right about the incorrect link on the AW-200 page, Wolle.

Are you sure about "three piece back" and "AW-90". I know about two Piece back for AW-90 or three piece back for AW-100.

The AW-90 and the AW-100 you can find also at:
http://kreativ-lab.de/artwood/prospekte79_2.html
and:
http://kreativ-lab.de/artwood/prospekte80_2.html

Can you send same photos of the guitar and one of the label and the neck block with the serial number. I got same AWs and I am wondering about the serials. I can imagine about the system in the numbers. Thanks a lot.
