The new Steve Vai model acoustic from Ibanez has been officially anounced for a while, but is only just being shown at NAMM. I'd be interested in hearing what you guys think of it esthetically, since no one has had a chance to play it yet.
A few links to some info on it:

Jim,
In all honesty, with this being the first ever Steve Vai signature acoustic, I think it's a good investment for the future. The highly figured ash top/mahogany body does have a nice tone. There was a model they bought out in 2000 called a JX70, it's part of the MASA acoustic series and when these first hit here in Australia, I was amazed at the warm tone of this smaller body acoustic. However, from the pics of the Vai model, this larger body should sound even better. It's good to see the Ibanez web site unable to cope with the amount of traffic on it this Friday just gone when they displayed there 2004 winter Namm product :)

Jim:

It's a nice looking guitar. Definitely radical enough that it says "Vai" right off the bat. I'd like to see one in person, though.

Cameron:

The links say that the Vai EP7 has "Quilted Maple Top, Back and Sides". The 2000 JX70 did have an arched ash top and mahogany back and sides. It was the only Masa series that I liked. However, the pickup mounted right against the end of the fretboard didn't thrill me. The extended fretboard on the Vai does look very cool!

Any ideas on the pricing for the EP7?

Oh, I'm not likely to buy one myself, as I've got a Guild D55 and would have to sell it to get this one. My new guitar money this year is going towards an AR-3000 ;-) I just wanted to know what you all thought of its looks. I'm new to these forums but have been playing since '73.
My impression on the pricing was that it would likely be in the 700-800 range with case but that's not a written in stone thing. I think the list is 1399, but it should be another month or three before they start to hit the shelves.
Speaking of the Ibanez NAMM site, I went to Ibanez.com on Wednesday, and couldn't get in so I went over to the Japanese site to see what was up there (www.ibanez.co.jp). Once there, I took off the .jp and put on a .uk to see if there was any news on the UK site. Well, it ain't Ibanez!
Have you ever gone to www.ibanez.co.uk? It's evidently been like that for a year or two.

John, as yet we have no official pricing on the office computer yet. The official Ibnaez release for 2004 in Australia is March 1st. You know the protocol I have to follow working for Ibanez here in Australia....sorry :(

Here's a few links from Eddie Kolesar's site (he's EKG guitars, and makes excellent replacement bodies/bits and the likes for Jem/RG players)

I bet it looks really nice in person, can't wait to stumble upon one in Sam Ash or someplace :-)
