Bought a beautiful '70's flattop with headstock & label inside marked Syairi. Label says made in Japan & J-60. Previous owner says she bought it about 1975 & paid $500 & I believe it. No serial # supposedly a custom one-off. Anyone know if this brand is an Ibanez by another name? |

I am a big Yairi fan, most specifically Alvarez Yairi - S Yairi is Sadao I believe - related to the other Yairis... Look at Harmony Central's list of guitar reviews and see if someone posted a review. J60 sounds like a Gibson flattop clone - is it ?? I have had a number of Alvarez Yairis and settled for my DY96 which is a very fancy clone of a Martin D45 - an amazing guitar that will never leave my possession. |

It's a pitfall to believe that Alvarez Yairi is a person.
Alvarez-Yairi is the high end line of Alvarez guitars under the supervision of master luthier K. Yairi.
So Alvarez is just a brand.
The full name of the other luthier K.Yairi is Kazuo Yairi, and it's the same luthier who built for Bozo Podunanvac 'round 1979.

So Ginger, thanks for that & who then is S.Yairi? My guitar doesn't say Alvarez anywhere. It's definitely "high-end" build & materials. Label has model# J-60, but the spaces for serial# & date are blank. |

S. Yairi are instruments made by Sada Yairi - best to do some GOOGLE searching to get the varied opinions of this group of luthiers, there is much discussion as to who is who and how the are all related (or not). I am a BIG Alvarez Yairi collector, I've had 7 or 8 of the nicer AY guitars. Now I just have the best, a DY96. Here is a link to a great Alvarez Yairi site a buddy of mine in Japan owns and runs, hope you like some of the photos... You'll see my DY96 in a few of them.
